Italian B.M.T. and I enjoy my 10" Kenwood I bought for $15 (Canadian :D) from a friend of mine. I haven't heard too many different subs, but my friend's dual Type R setup with 2,000W amp pounded nicely. You can hear him coming for about 2 city blocks, and that was while I was working in a construction site with enough noise already.

12" Die-cast subwoofer 2 Ohm Impedance
• Kevlar-impregnated paper woofer cone- This combination has been chosen for its high strength-to-weight ratio, and is formed using a proprietary manufacturing process. Besides improving transient response, this cone material adds stiffness to relieve stress concentrations that may accumulate at the base of the cone under high-power and high-pressure applications. This is the same cone used in our flagship GTi series subwoofers.
• Proprietary die-cast frame - The frame on Power Series is borrowed from our flagship GTi subwoofers. The thick wall construction offers maximum rigidity to support the heavy motor structure, and its fully vented architecture provides maximum movement of air behind the cone and spider for maximum cooling. Maximum rear-window area is provided to minimize acoustic compression of the cone's motion at high excursion.
• Nitrile-butylene-rubber one-piece surround and gasket - This material provides an optimum blend of elasticity and internal damping, resistance to ultraviolet radiation, and durability despite extreme temperature and humidity variations. The large size of the roll was optimized to offer good long-throw linearity with the proper amount of control and stability at excursion limits.
• Spider-integrated tinsel leads are used to greatly enhance reliability and eliminate tinsel lead slap.
jeez. all i know is i've got a Bazooka sub, 8". built in amp. tube shaped. and it actually can pound for a little guy. i've got it in my 88 golf.

Best bang for the buck: Sony Xplod (i loved mine... till I sold them)
Highest Quality Bass Sound: Infinity, Bazooka Tube
Hardest Hitters (SPL's): Alpine, JL, JBL, MTX
i have never heard the subs by sony xplod, but my wife had the 6x9s in her car, and they sucked huge. i fiddled around with every setting to try and perfect it, but they just weren't that nice. so when they got stolen i wasn't that dissapointed

Yeah... you get the right amp and cross over the channel at like 70hz, they would have made some pretty sweet bass if in the right enclosure...
naw, no amp. just straight out.

My sister's 2004 dodge sx 2.0 has 2 amped 6x9s in the back behind a baffle. I'm assuming they're through a crossover because... why the hell would they behind a cargo cover type thing if they weren't? Anyway, they sound great. 6x9s produce some good sound like that, and their stereo is awesome.
Her boyfriend is into car audio, too, so since his old car (Hyundai Scoupe Turbo) died on him, they bought their SX 2.0 and with his holiday pay from his old job he's looking to buy a new CD deck for the car so he can stick a sub in the trunk in the future. He's looking to spend upwards for $400 Canadian on one, and they're lookin soo good.
P.S. Crossovers... would nearly anything be good? I saw some Scosche brand crossovers at walmart when I got my wiring kit and thought it'd do the trick to cut out the bass to my rear 3-ways and my front speakers.
