OK, 72,000 miles on my car...
The tranny at 35 mph isnt shifting to second...
I tried to see if i could shift the gears on my own by putting it in 1, then 2, then 3, and then D...
Ok with 1, slight jerk into 2, feel the slam into 3...
ummm...so yeah...is it a pc that needs to reset the shifting times or is this a potentially bad problem because im afraid to blow my tranny...help brothers...

UPDATE: Well, I just took it out onto a main road when i woke up this morning and everything is shifting properly as if nothing is wrong...Thank ***...No slamming, No screeching...Perhaps the car just needed a Good nights sleep? idk, maybe because it got the **** kicked out of it yesterday it was acting funny, but lets see how the day goes...

On MKIV's there is a way to reset the TCM to factory settings... I think you have to hold in the accellerator peddal and cycle the ignition key... Not sure exactly, but this will probably help or fix the problem. Do a search on the Vortex.

Is the tranny fluid level correct?
Actually... When thinking about this, this sounds like that could be the problem too.... How many miles on your car? If I were you I'd take it to a lube shop, have them flush your tranny and change the tranny filter... It couldnt hurt, and it will extend the life of your tranny anyway.

Hey fellas its been forever! And ive missed the site, ive been at college, looking for jobs (theyre impossible to find), etc.
Anyways, I need to know how to check my ATF levels on my Mk4 jetta bc im having some tremendous problems...
The transmission shift are all weird...I have to shift on my own now using the 1 2 3 and D on the automatic shifter bc i wont get a very temperamental 4th gear otherwise...
One day my check engine light came on and I couldnt enable 4th gear while in D, so i drove around for a day or so bc i couldnt get to the garage and the engine light turned off and I got 4th again...
This has been the way its been for awhile...Now here is how the gears feel when im the one doing the shifting...
1st- pulls strong
2nd - pulls clean
3rd- I step on the pedal and the revs build and the response is slightly delayed, so i have to be nice to 3rd gear
4th- (when it works)- loose as heck... i step on the pedal and the revs can go but the car wont react...
I need answers! HELPP!!! :)
just like old times...hahaha

1. Put your key in the ignition and turn ignition to the on position (the position right before you start the car)
2. Hold down the gas pedal pressing the button under the pedal for at least 20 seconds.
3. Let foot off pedal and start car. Be sure that you do no turn ignition off because that will void the reset.
You can also do this with a Vag Com...
Let me know how it goes :D
