I went to visit my parents tonight where they were camping, and this guy they know asks me if my car's a standard. I say yes, and then he goes on to tell me that he has an 88 golf that is banged up pretty bad in the front end but basically all the parts are good and I can have it all.
He said the rear struts are new, new exhaust, and a very good condition radiator. Also said that the interior is pretty nice, and that it has a decent stereo I can get out of it too.
I'm so stoked on this, tomorrow I'm going to go find it and see what I can get off it. I need a lot of stuff for my car that I can't afford to buy, so getting all this stuff for free is awesome.
I'm hoping for the best :D

^ I'll let you know what's left once I'm done taking everything I need.
i REALLY need a new exhaust. my emmissions test is coming up soon and i need to get my car certified. plus when i fixed it i used 5 pcs of pipe because i didn't have any long enough. it was a real hack job

I went and saw the car for the first time tonight, here are the downsides:
- Left headlight is smashed... that's the one I need.
- Lights aren't Rounds... I was hoping they were.
- It's a 2 door, so I can't steal the door panels
- It's an automatic so I can't get the shift boot.
- The "Alpine Stereo" is just a super old Alpine Deck. May just give it to my dad for his truck.
- The wheels suck. The winters are 13" and the summers are also 13" and on steelies.
- Engine is shot.
- I just bought a trunk lock and driver's side mirror glass... both of which I now don't need.
Here are the upsides :D
- MINT CONDITION DARK CLOTH SEATS
- I can really use the e-brake :D
- May be able to get the windshield
- There's a cargo cover I may be able to get to hide my sub & stuff in the trunk.
- I can steal a whole lot of much needed weather stripping **** from it
- There are the stock grills that I can use to cover the big holes in my dash that once almost-held some 5 1/4" speakers, maybe steal the 4" speakers if they're decent.
- Exhaust
- Rear Struts
All in all I'm stoked as all hell. Not to mention this summer the rest of my family is going to the Queen Charlotte Islands, so while they're gone I can drive my mom's car and paint the Jetta :D
My neighbour is an autobody professional so I'm hoping he'll have an old gun I can borrow, my dad has a compressor or my sister's boyfriend's brother in law has a big one, and if my neighbour gives my friends and I a hand in painting the car, he'll likely want to have some fun with it and do something cool. I like super subtle flames so it'd be sweet to have that done.

Almost forgot to add, I haven't really taken a deep look into the car yet. I may be able to get much needed brake pads from it (I'm seriously too broke to buy new ones), and possibly some other stuff.
