I have been contemplating on getting an idea on how much the local folks would like to go camping, and a hike. The location I have in mind is Notch Peak, 40 miles southwest of Delta, Utah in the Great Basin. This area is in the middle of no-where so we would not be bothered by others. There are some good campsites in the canyons near the summit. The hike to the summit takes only about 1.5 hours for fit climbers, 3 hours for slower people. Here are some photos:

This one was taken at Notch Peak in 1994. Notch Peak is the second tallest vertical relief in the continental U.S. behind EL Capitan in Yosemite. Notch Peak has a vertical cliff on the north side the is 2700 feet tall, totally vertical. In this photo we reached the top:

Here is the top from a different vantage point:

And another:

This is the same summit on a different trip. To get an idea of the size of this beast I am standing in the upper right hand corner of the picture above the white rock band on the cliff:

All in all tons of fun. Let me know what you guys think of this, and depending on the success of the Uinta drive I may try and get this one to fly as well. Post away....

Get drunk at the campsite, but I would not recommend it on the climb. 2700 vertical feet is a long way down, sober or not.

Sorry guys, those of you who live out of the area are always welcome if you ever get a chance to be here or passing through. I don't know what it is about the local area latelly, but the VW scene has kind of been revived. Who know's how long it will stay that way though. I did find some photo's of the summit though, if you guys love heights you need to get here and do this climb. Awesome.

Climbing the face of this peak at it's extreme is 5.11c. I don't know if anyone here likes the technical climbing part of this, the hike up the summit from the east is the best route for most people. However if anyone want's to dabble with a little climbing, I will bring some gear.

I posted a similar link to this one in the VTX Rocky Mtn forum, and so far a few people are interested. The thing is we wouldn't want to take the dub's on this one, actually a couple of 4 wheel drive's would work well. Louis, the guy on the RM forum who has the Carrera also has a Tacoma. I could get my Dad's truck or my sister's 4Runner, and we could probably haul a few people down that way.
