I have a 82 caddy (my current daily driver), And I am looking into making a euro truck out of it. I would like to know what year front bumper (the big ones) will bolt up without to much trouble. I would also like the round headlight/ foglight grille, but I have been told it will not fit. Inside I want to change out the dash, I've seen mk2's & mk3's put in mk1's- which is more easy, as far as fitting? I have a good knowledge of air-cooled VW's having owned 40+ of every make, and i've decided to venture into water-cooled. I also have 5+ years of body-work/ paint work, so I don't mind taking on big jobs.[/quote]

I did a mk2 dash swap, it was a huge pain but I like it. I'd be happy to help out if you need any insight. I'd say get an earlier (85ish dash as the wiring is pretty much the same as the mk1)
As for the big bumper swaps I have heard that there is a guy on ebay selling pre-fitted big bumpers for the rabbits. I'm pretty sure you will want them off a golf if you try and do them yourself but make sure they fit on the rear as J/G big bumpers are differant lengths in the rear.
The round headlight setup will fit on your truck but you have to swap the rad support and the fenders. I think
