EPA laws say you do, and if you don't, your computer might have an issue.
I would use it as a good axuse for a new exhaust system, if the bank account says it's okay.
Besides, why would you blow your cat? Do I detect a bit of sexual frustration?

Nope, doesnt include the cat. If you live anywhere where they salt the roads at all, an aluminized exhaust will only last a few years at best. If you are going to get exhaust, spring for stainless. If you know how to weld, you can save a buttload of money by doing it yourself. Buy a muffler, hi-flow cat some mandrel bends, and some straight tubing, and fit it together like a puzzle. It is hard though, and requires alot of time on your back figuring out angles and cut lengths. If I were you I would just get a hi-flow cat from magnaflow and have a muff shop weld it in. 2.25 or 2 should be about right for a 2.0 TT also has a hi-flo cat, but it is big bucks! I would much rather get one from magnaflow for $100 and have it welded in for 20-40 good luck!

Magnaflow has a catback for $443 not bad for stainless! Almost cheaper than buying the parts and fitting/welding it yourself!

magnaflows look really nice too. i got my exhaust from new dimensions its a jetex 2.75" (yeah kinda beefy for a 2.0 but i have reason for it :) ) it sounds really nice too. I think its 2.5" for the standard 2.0 model i got the 1.8t version for the jetta thats why its 2.75"

Update, turns out the shaking of the engine was not caused by a blown cat after all!
When I first heard the loud pop, the sound was behind me so i figured it had to do something with the exhaust...but the engine was misfiring like nuts and the revs were all over the place...so i took it to my friends house to have him check it...
he said, "Probably something with the ignition-the coilpack, or could be something as stupid as spark plugs and needs a tune up. But, it could be the cat because the air was getting trapped in the engine and was choking it..."
Following day, I read my jetta manual and it said, "If engine light is blinking(which it was), reason is most likely the catalytic converter..."
So, I flip out and spend an entire day searching for cats on the internet...
Long Story short(too late), my mechanic heard the misfiring immediately and found out 3 of 4 SPARK PLUGS EXPLODED! 8O and, he replaced the ignition wires, now the car runs better than ever...so i learned to be calm about **** until its time to actually lose it...
on another note ...1) ill be posting pictures of my baby w/i the next week or so...2)my mom and i are gonna be looking for a 1.8T Jetta for me w/i the next few months  im so excited...3) Ill see if i can create some kind of drifting video next time it snows and post it up here(snow + FWD makes matt a happy boy)
