*****I haven't completed the conversion yet, this is just a place for me to keep notes****
Difficulty:
Frustration: 9/10
Satisfaction:
Time* : 1 hour (so far)
*based on first time doing everything
1) Aquire all needed parts before starting. This includes the MK2 dash, switches, glove box, center console etc.
2) Remove the steering wheel. You don't really have to remove it, but the 5 minutes it takes to remove will save you a good 30 minutes. You'll need either a 20mm socket or a 20mm wrench. If you use a wrench, you'll also need a pry bar (see picture).
Once the bolt is removed, start removing the steering wheel.Never hit your steering wheel with a hammer to remove it, you'll damage alot of stuff. Grab the wheel firmly in both hands and pull towards you. Slight wiggling may be required. Try not to smoke yourself in the face when it lets go. Steering wheel pullers are available if needed.
3) Remove the turn indicator and wiper stalks
4) Next remove the instrument panel cover, then the cluster, then the stereo (or toggle switches :) ), heat/vent selector and ashtray and all switches. Remove knee boards and glove box. There are 2 screws on each end of the dash, and 2 in the middle beneath the ashtray. Once those are removed, there are several clips holding the dash in place along the windsheild. You can either rip your dash out with one good yank (not recommended) or fiddle with it and eventually get it free.
To do this you will need a 8 mm socket and a star screw driver.
