yeah, it's all good... I got a good deal on all the parts I need to convert an ABA to a 2.1L 16V

No stroker... :D I've got a few options on the table:

1. Use a 1.8L block so I can keep my 7,000rpm redline
2. Use an ABA block with ABA pistons (8:1 comp) and run 25psi of boost.
3. Use 9a (2.0L 16V) pistons and run normal compression and low boost.
4. DA STROKER! TDI crank and rods, and ABA pistons... I'm guessing this redlines at 5,500.

I'm *MOST* likely going to do option 2.... but option 1 is still tempting. I like the 7k redline, and I only really want about 200whp max... and I am sure I can easilly obtain that with an FI 1.8L 16V. If I went 2.0L my redline would be about 6,500... which still isnt bad.

Dude, Andrew stauffer on vortex has a BUILT 8v with a STOCK 2.0 aba bottom end on ITB's he has no problem revving to 8500 with solid lifters and stiff valvesprings. IMHO even with a tdi crank, rev limit will be valvetrain limited. and in a 16v it isnt even that much of a problem. Are you going to run standalone? 25lbs of boost is serious! Goodluck finding a tranny that will hold up.

8,500 rpm? Honestly.. How long do you think that motor is going to last? Forumula 1 engines last for 600 miles. The TDI crank, with the most perfect set specs of equipment will only give you 2.095-2.1L...... 0.1 L of displacement is not worth the 40,000 miles of engine life that goes with it. Brent's 16V makes like 280hp, and he's only busted 10 trannies. I only want like 200-230hp MAX, so I'll just tune it until i am satisfied with the powerband... 300hp is insane, and would probably not make a very good daily driver. 25lbs of boost in an 8:1 is not insane... It's higher than average, but not serious, lol... It's going to be a monster.

Does it matter? I mean, how much does an ABA bottom end cost? I'd much rather rev the piss out of a motor and replace it every 50,000 than shift at 5500 worrying about blowing my motor. You puss!

hehe, not to mention that most people blow their first turbo motor within 1 month!

Well... these engines were NEVER meant to take that kind of rev, and it's my intention to have this car and motor until the day I die... And an 8,500 rpm ABA is only going to last 10,000 miles, IF that. If your lucky you might be able to sqeeze two years out of the motor.

Most people blow their first tubo motor, not because of rev's but because of wastegate adjustment, incorrect mixture, bad timing curve, or being stupid. I wouldnt plan on having that motor forever :P

Well... I am going to keep rebuilding it until it's out of max spec... And then after that, i am going to mount it on my wall in my garage.

were talking aftermarket turbo motors... Factory ones are built to handle what they have.
