How often in general should I have to replace my brake pads and how much should it cost? I have a 2003 Jetta GLI (VR6).

For your car pagid pads cost $75 from gprparts.com They should be replaced when they wear out, or in other word when there is 1/16" of friction material left.

OK HOLD UP!!!! This is the way our MK4 brakes work dude...BEWARE!!! If you have censored brakes...theyll cost you a pretty penny...my advice...if you have the capabilities...get the pads yourself off the below link bro... look at the pads(usually come 4 in a box)...if you look in the right places and do the installations yourself you should be ok...

Which picture am I supposed to be looking at? Which set of pads are you recommending? What kind of a hook up are they talking about for the wear sensors? I thought that the wear sensor was just a mechanical piece that made noise once you get to the end of the pad.

Most brakes pads, if not all will have a little metal clip on them going down the side. If your pad is worn out this clip will scrape on your disk causing that annoying brake whine/screech. The ones that don't have the clip have a groove down the center of the braking material, when the groove is gone or almost gone...time to replace.

Other cars, such as mk4 Vr6's have electronic sensors in the pads that trigger a light on the dash. Thats what I call an "idiot" light!

just keep an eye on the pads. you'll be able to see them through your wheels. you have the idiot light for them anyways

This topic is a shining example of why I like A2's.
