==============================

Today I spent about 6 hours sanding down some steelies that I had, in preparation for the flat black spray paint that they were about to recieve. After I did that I was waiting for the paint to dry, and I got some rice going through my brain, and decided I was going to cut my springs... (call me a ricer right now, and get it out of your system) To my surprise the ride was not comprimised at all. It doesnt bounce at all, and actually it feels like it handles a little bit better. The wheels dont scrap or anything. I cut about 1 1/2 coils out of the stock springs, which lowered it about 2 1/2 inches. It looks SICK. I highly reccomend it if you are bored with the stock look, and you don't have plans for a suspension in the near future.

ANYWAY... I took the liberty of taking some pictures so you can see the "almost" finished product. The red hood and fender don't make it look THAT ghetto, but I think I am going to wait until this summer and have the whole car repainted to return it to pristine condition. (I am taking suggestions for the color, btw)

Any comments, ideas or questions are welcome.

Nice. The whole thing looks awesome. Your engine swap looks clean, the rims are sick and the red fender and hood, well they speak for themselves :D

Your rear end is riding a bit high but once you move the subs back there it should level out a bit.

EDIT: Wait a second.... where are the other 2 doors :lol:

Cody, did you pull all of the springs off and cut them? I want to take a look at that at the meet on sat. I've heard about people cutting them but have not seen it in person.

I took the strut off. (bolt on the top of the tower, and 2 at the bottom by the hub assembly.) Then I just got a handheld grinder and made a cut on the spring with the spring still on the strut. Make sure you measure how much you cut off one side to get the other side even. NOTE: BEWARE! BEFORE YOU CUT THE SPRING IT IS UNDER SOME SERIOUS TENSION!!!! If you cut the spring without taking it off first, you can seriously hurt yourself if you don't take proper precatiion. Just make sure you wear cover-alls to protect your arms, and gloves, and of course, safety glasses, and you should be okay. I used vice grips to get the discarded piece of spring out... Which wasnt too hard, but it takes a few minutes, cause the part of the spring you are going to keep is in the way.

I wouldnt however recomend cutting out more than 1 1/2 coils... I'm pretty sure that's a *SAFE* limit if you don't use a suspension.

Note: After you cut the springs on an A2' there will be no tension on the springs prior to reinstall. So when you put the strut and wheel back on, when you start to let down the jack, stick your hand up in the tower and guide the spring back onto it's mounting area at the top of the strut.

Like I say... I've driven on mine for about 50 miles, and the only thing I notice differently is that it makes a bit more noise in the cab.... Nothing serious... in fact... quite insignificant. I tested it by going over some of my favorite ****ty roads at high speed and my wheels didnt rub or anything. I did however tear off my front bumper the first time I came out of the driveway cause the car rides so low now, lol.

Interesting... I'm gonna have to pay some closer attention to that on the saturday meet.
