I have a 8V gti engine and I want to drop a 16V on there I think. Is it possible to just swap heads? It's from a 87 so I think it has solid lifters.

The result would be super low compression ratio(around 8.0:1). It would be good for lotsa boost, but would be laggy and get bad gas mileage. I dont think any 16v's came with solid lifters either. They can be retrofitted but didnt come stock that way.

So a turbo is pretty much manditory.

just swap in a xflow get mk4 intake manifold and exhaust manifold. I got an extra mk4 exhaust mani sitting around. Its a tubular style manifold so it has better flow.

Yo! Do you have an extra intake mani? Id be interested in the two, been looking for a while.
And, regarding this post: you can use 1.8 16v pistons with your rods to raise the compression.

Ok, thanks alot guys. Looks like I'll just find a 16V then, because I don't feel like turboing right now, if I even keep the car...
