Could anyone tell me where I might be able to purchase a V5 motor (new or slightly used) for my MK3? I know they are only available outside the states but any websites or anything would be helpful.

Dude, that thing is as big as the "V6" in the passats, and I am sure the "V6" has more power. The "V6" is a lot more common too.

Naw it's a 2.3L motor, defanitly smaller then the V6. Also it is smoother than the V6  Why does everyone think odd number motors would be rough? Mercedes proved otherwise a long time ago. Besides why would I want a redily available engine, be like so many other cars.

So I contacted VW and ya know what they told me? We are not allowed to disclose any information about the V5 motor to North America (United States/Canada). I'll find another way.
