I have recently recieved a rebuilt 1.7L cylinder head but don't know the history of it. I can make out the valve's part number through the spings: 021-109-612. The most info that I can get from online part stores is that it's 33MM. I would really appreaciate any help with this since my manual calls for a .008" exhaust valve adjustment for sodium filled and .006 if not.

Thanks,
Dion

You could always call the trusty ol' dealership and ask them to look up a part number for you. They just type it in their computer and WAMOO there it is.
Hope this helps

That part number is for an exhaust valve. To my knowledge, this is not a sodium filled valve. You have to be careful with sodium filled valves, it is not recommended that these valves be machined for refacing and even hand lapping is questionable. Sounds like it has solid lifters since your concerned about gap, you probably already know that hydraulic lifters do not need adjusting.

Thanks to all that have replied. Now I can safely assume that they are not sodium filled. Wish me luck, next week I'm headed on an 8,000 mi trip in the old camper. It's a '72 that I've had for over 12 years and it's 2,700 miles away from rolling over to 0 miles, for the third time.

The fist owner(whom I did not know) kept detailed valve adjustment records(miles and time) on the edge of the door untill '86. I'm sure that the engine was rebuilt somewhere along the way, but all I've had to do is change the cylinder heads. I've gotten over 100,000 out of it and summed up the total miles from my records and his.

Sorry, but I don't have a digital camera or scanner. I need to keep my money saved for gas on my trip. It's a lot of fun cruis'n the open road in the old bread loaf.

I used a cheapo v8 style valve spring compressor to remove the valves in my 16v head when I took it apart. It was the kind that is like a big clamp and clamps on the bottom of the valve and then on the top of the retainer and you clamp it down and take out the locks and done.
