Its a Friday, its a clear, sunny day, and Im "crazy in love"....what a better way than to go out to the Santa Cruz Mtns and just have a peaceful, scenic cruise.......

As I went up the mountains, impatiently driving behind a slow car, a shiny, silver Subaru WRX Sti driver comes and starts to tail me. Of course, we had to wait until we hit the section with the overpassing and when that came, foolish I may seem, I challenged the STI driver....

Holy S&*t.....that car accelerates like theres no tomorrow! It simply just accelerated away from my anemic 2.0. Never have I seen a car accelerate that quickly!!!! ( It probably accelerates even faster than the Z06 I versed earlier this year!!) For a mile or less, it kept a 8-10 car length lead on me.

Then came a section known as Bear Gulch ( Dave you know which one Im talking about), which basically is a section which primarily consists of winding hairpins. When we entered it, the STI's steam seemed to go away. The 8-10 car length lead was lost when I was hanging on his bumper. On ALL the corners, I was able to keep up with him. To put more pressure on him , I also started to flash him more, and eventually, he started messing up. After we finished that part, I activated my hazards to conclude my victory, but when I stopped to chat with him, he looked pissed and just drove off to another direction.

I must say, this must have been my hardest battle to date. On the straights, we were going around 120-130 mph on the straights and about 80-90 mph on the corners.

I know that many of you wont believe this story, but in fact, I DONT REALLY CARE. Im just glad I experienced it and barely won. That race was LONG and TIRING. In fact, after that race, my hands were TREMBLING abit due to the high speeds we hit. Anyways, my Jetta and I are tired, so I wish everyone a good night......

P.S. If your going to challenge an STI, be prepared to unleash everything you've got. They are THAT FAST!!!

Seriously though, after the race, I was so tired, and at the same time, filled with an incredible adrenaline rush. My hands were even shaking abit and I got a slight headache after. It was extremely overwhelming that I had to go to sleep after talking about with some dubbers, but definitely, I am very happy and thrilled to have experienced an amazing race like that. I hope that I can meet that STI again.....

(But not for now.....my Jetta and I need to rest up  )

Do you think he could have taken you if he knew the road better?

It sounds like an awesome race, too bad no one was filming :D

Actually, Ive seen that STI a couple of times when I have gone up there during the last few months. This road is much farther than my home course, so I go on it about at least once a month. Its good for cruising and scenic viewing, but it seems more like a test course for people wanting to push their cars to the limit.

Dont worry though, next time I go up there for a race with a high-powered vehicle like the STI , I'll strap my digicam to the passenger's seat so you all can have an exciting footage to watch! :D

That is impressive! STI is a very good handling car but driver error can make a huge difference. What is your suspension setup? It would have to be pretty serious and track oriented. cool

Actually, on the mountain roads, suspension tuning is the very opposite of track racing where "stiffer is better." Because the roads on the mountains are bumpy and many times uneven, it is essential to have one that absorbs the bumps well and keeps the tires on the ground at all times. Im sorry...I'll have to keep my suspension setup a secret, but a good setup for mountain racing would be a custom suspension that would probably be "a LITTLE stiffer than stock but no more than that."

You just basically said you have a stock setup.

Just wondering, does anyone know where I can buy a camera holder to put on the passenger seat? So next time, I can give you guys good footage of a mountain race!

Yup, walmart, ask one of the workers for "duct tape"

I've only ever seen tripods, and I don't think you want one of those?

Seriously... I'd just ducttape it to the dash.

If you do go the ducttape route, don't put the tape on your camera. Put some paper between the camera and tape so that the camera doesn't get all sticky. You might need to use some rubbing alcohol on the dash if it gets sticky.

or...

have a passenger hold it!
150-200lbs shouldnt make much difference in a mk4 anyway :P

Whoa, $200 for one of those......thats abit too much for a stand.....lol. Looks like I might have to use the traditional, yet dependable duct tape!!! :D

Or what about putting the camera in between the headrest and the seat? Maybe firmly setting in between those should keep in there, plus, maybe add in some tape around to keep it in place! Has anyone tried this yet?
