Alright, when whoever it was broke into my car and stole my stereo, they left quite a mess of the wires. So now I have a Kenwood KDC 322 CD deck donated to me thanks to my sister's bf and some 6x9 speakers donated to me thanks to my friend Lucas.
Anyways, the main power cables were all there, but rather than spending $10 on an adapter to fit the new CD deck my sister's bf, Rory, snipped the wires and started trying to figure out which was which. He's really good with stereo equipment but didn't get a chance to figure much out because two wires hit and we blew the fuse.
So, today (maybe) we're trying again now that my windows have been replaced, we're going to give it another shot.
Anyone have any tips for figuring out what's what? I've got an 86 Jetta GLI if that makes any difference.

The power wires should be the same color. The speaker wires that's another story. Get a 9 volt battery and pick 2 wires (of the same color) and touch the wire terminals to the 9V battery... This will create some static in the speaker this wire runs to. Make note which speaker sounds and label it with masking tape.... Do this until you figure everything out, it should be a sinch after that....
Black should be the ground, red should be the battery lead, and yellow should be your accessory wire, unfortunatly A2's don't have this wonderful feature pre installed you have to run a wire. There is a light in the glove compartment that becomes live when the motor is turned on... Just run a small gauge wire from the positive lead on this light, through the dashboard and into the yellow wire on your CD deck... then the deck will turn on with the key.
SAVVY?!

Excellent... Print that off and hang it on your wall man, that's invaluable. I stand corrected on the color of the wires, but everything else I said is still true... I've always used the 9V battery thing, and it works quite well, but if you have information like what forty posted, then that's even better.... Fact still remains that you have to run a wire for the ACC.

Alrighty,
Today I took it over to my friend's house where we could do it in his carport out of the ran so we could run a light through the sunroof without getting poured on.
So anyways, he says we need to rewire it or something, so we're going to wait until we have daylight and time to do this, probably on the weekend. But yeah, thanks for the tips, hopefully this'll sound half decent.
