After learning about the possiblility of swapping a TD turbo into a G60 Corrado, I'm interested in this low cost alternative to an expensive turbo.

Is it at all possible to install a TDI turbo from an A4 TDI into an A4 2.0? I hope this isn't too stupid of a question.

yeah, you can do it... Only one problem. The positioning of the TDI's turbo is point upwards, which will come into contact with the throttle body and some other crap on your 2.0. You have to disassemble the turbo and turn the housing of the turbo so the outlet to the turbo is pointed the other way... other than that the manifold should bolt right up.

Hmmmm.... I'm very intrigued with this possibility now. How difficult would it be to reposition the outlet?

I havent ever done it, but You should just be able to unbolt the intake turbine housing and turn it 180 degrees.

How much would getting a TDI turbo cost? How much power would it add to a 2.0? This is getting pretty interesting..... :D

This one is $100, but it needs a rebuild.

The TD turbos are extremely small. You could probably only get a few pounds of boost and it would be scorching the air due to bad effeciency. Better to get a use T3 turbo. They can be had very cheaply and came on alot of cars from the factory(Thundrbird, DSM, Nissan,etc...) Buy a log manifold off ebay and run custom piping. There are tons more "bits and peices" you would need but I think a junkyard turbo system could be put together for less than 1000. If you have a G60 or Motronics the management would be simple. But it is harder to run boost on Digifant2

Heres some stuff I just found in like 2 minutes on ebay:

This looks like it would flow good and is cheaphttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4503766303&category=42606&sspagename=WDVW

Very high quality mani, I doubt it will sell for so cheaphttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7934595888&category=33742&sspagename=WDVW

Good turbohttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7933829173&category=33742

yeah T3's are really cheap the only other issue is finding a decent priced exhaust manifold. If you wanted to, you could use a TD manifold and get a T3 flange welded on and use a T3. That would be very cost effective.

Ive been thinking of building a manifold similar to this one. I was planning on a turbo, but my car is NA for now. Once I got the thing all jigged, I might start selling them for about $200. Equal length delivers results.
