As cool as it is, there really isn't a point to an electrical car. It's equally bad if not worse then a gasoline powered car.
That is one hot color though :D

I want a hybrid Golf/Jetta or something. I've seen a hybrid Toyota Rav4 or something that got some 94mpg on the highway.

LOL, you can do that using manure. It's somewhat tricky and I don't know of an engine that can run off it yet.

I was thinking of the direct "driver-to-injector" method.

There has to be a way to burn manure....... or...... crap. In which case you could just run a steam powered engine and run a boiler in the trunk, lol.

to burn manure you let it sit with no oxygen present. It then makes methane I think. If you have oxygen present you can't burn the gas becasue of some reason that I forget. My friend did a science fair project on it back in the day. He owns a dairy farm so he had plenty to sample

I sometimes service LPGEFI trucks. They are 8.1 L chevy V-8 (gas) with GM installed Bi-phase LPG injection, that injects the propane as a liquid. Don't get much in to them other than the occasional injector or fuel pump change.
You may want to check out megasquirt (http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html), it's a build you self ECU, and a few people seem to be making LP systems from them, mainly vapor.... I think. There is also a megasquirt email list for VWs, I'll see if I can find a link to it.
I've also read about using LP to supplement diesels. When done right you can gain +50% hp, but only works well on intercooled TDs, and you have to be careful that you don't melt the exhust manifolds......I wonder how a supercharged Detroit 2-stroker would handle it?

50% gain :D you mean my TD could clear 100 HP?

Yep.... You'll be tearing up clutches and axle shafts.
From what I understand, the more you boost it the shorter the engine will last.
I almost forgot, I also work on 14 hp Kohlers that are LP, on floor buffers. Some guy has a small fleet of them here. He use to use Honduhs, but they didn't hold up to well, alot of internal engine problems.

Glad to help. 8)
I was concidering megasquirt for my vanagon if I couldn't figure out the FI problems, but I haven't touched the damn thing in two years, I got frustrated with it, now I just don't have the time or money to do anything with it.
It would be nice to get it back on the road again, and do some camping.

For some reason, a shorter life span on a diesel engine doesn't really worry me, 500 000 Miles out of an engine is good enough for me.
I totally understand your lack of time, I have half a dozen cars and no time to work on them. All I can do is drive my diesel up and down the driveway a few times each weekend.

I wish I still had my 78 rabbit L. 40 to 50 mpg would be really nice now. Right now I'm mainly driving a 97 Chevy Blazer getting only 16 to 20 mpg. :( I got rid of my diesel rabbit at 300,000 miles because the floor pan was rusted away. There was nothing, but carpet, holding the front lower control arms on, but it still ran great.
I have been keeping my eyes open for another vw diesel, hopefully a TD.

Unless you bought it from a family member, it's almost impossable to register and plate a car from Canada in Michigan, or else it might be worth checking out....... or I could just move to Canada, any good jobs there?

GM, Ford, and Dodge all make bi and tri fuel light trucks and vans. they aren't very common, but you can order them from the factory.

I'm a mechanic, everything but cars/light trucks. Small engines, med trucks, heavy equiptment, and farm machinery.
I just saw an auction bill for dec 11 about 20 miles away, and there's an 81 Rabbit L with 308k miles, I can't go, but I'm going to see if I can find someone to go for me and check it out and maybe bid on it.
Canada has diffrent emission laws, is what they claim is the biggest reason, I also heard that they may require you to convert the speedo to miles, and it must pass a very strict inspection, despite the fact that Michigan doesn't require any inspections, except med and heavy trucks.

That sounds like a real haslte to import.
I wonder why there isn't more media attention on these bi/tri fuel vehicles.
You probably could get a job up here, but I don't know for sure.
I just picked up a 81 Rabbit LS today. It's too bad the body got so bent/dented. There is almost no rust on it and the interior is mint.
