View Full Version : What's the worst car you've ever had?

For me it was Subaru. I had a couple and they were the most unreliable piecies of crap I've ever had.
Before putting the Jetta engine in to my van, I considered using a Subaru engine, replace the leaking VW boxer for a Subru boxer, and I'm sure glad I didn't (despite all the problems I've had with the Jetta engine).

Worst car? Would have to be my 83 Tercel wagon. No AC, though that wasn't too much of a problem because the car had so little power I wouldn't want to use it anyways. Sounded like a lawn mower, except twice as loud. Think I still have hearing damage from that car  The only good thing about that car was it had 4wd (very good when you live in the Colorado high country). Well, the reliability was good too. Too bad I didn't get to drive my mom's 88 AWD turbo Celica

1984 Renault R6/Rodéo 1100, that was my very first car, my father's gift, it was used and old, but actually it was my mechanic-learning car.
It was pure crap, the engine was so underpowered that sometimes I must gear to 1st to go up in some roads. I was driving it so hard that I broke the suspension a couple of times in off road rallies with my lycée friends.
However I rebuild the Solex carburetor, replaced the exhaust/intake manifold (one piece) and put new piston rings and the car was able to get 100 Km/h in the dust roads. Anyway I finally trashed the car, the suspension was the worst I ever seen before and the brakes were malfunctioning, crappiest car ever, enjoyed destroying it

I'm not going to call it crappy, but the worst car I drove was a 1990 Ford Tempo.
I didn't hate the car, but I didn't really like it either.
Talk about a strong engine. You can beat the hell out of a Ford Tempo engine and it will still run fine. They were literally bulletproof engines.

WELL YEAH! Ford can make a bullet proof engine no problem i.e police cruiser, they NEVER die. But they have no performance!

They don't need performance! Their freaking cop cars lol. The lights and siren are all they need ;)

ahhhhhhh... there will always be a place in my heart for the ford tempo... You right, the engines kept running forever (despite how mine would stall in the middle of intersections) the engine was pretty much bulletproof... I still had tons of problems with CV's, bearings, and sensors like crazy.

My worst car was definently my 1987 Honda Accord Lxi. It was automatic and Champagnish silverish with a leaky trunk. It wasn't THAT bad though, was all power and had a moonroof. Ah well got rid of that POS for $2500!!!

I cannot see any of those police interceptors here.... but I like them somehow, they look big, fat and ugly.
Besides they are more alike ram cars for pursuits, something unnecessary in my local roads where the highway patrol is just for touristic purposes.... just pay for your vignette and speed up in the autobahn

My worst car was a 1989 Beretta GT. she was done up and was pushing 250 hp but it was the 1st and only car I ever put in to the ditch and I was always replacing part after part, so I got rid of it! I'll never buy a chev again!

Actually the Ford Police Interceptors have the legendary 460 in them with performance parts that only the govt can have... IE: HUGE manifolds, fuel system, etc.... Police interceptors are pushing at least 480-500hp... Course most police depts use the crown vic v8, and they are only like 300hp.

Mine had to be a Rover 3500. Somedays the windows wouldn't go down. And somedays the wouldn't go up...loke late at night when the evening was done. I would be out for an hour or so trying to get them to work. Somedays the gas peddle would stick to the floor. I would have to turn off the ignition to slow the car down on the highway. It was alway an adventure. A real drama every time out. Never would start in the rain either.

again, one of these, "not my worst car" but my first car was an 84 VW Rabbit. I always made fun cuz it was as old as i was. but it got me from place to place...even tho it was an automatic and i had to drive it with two feet (idling problem).

If you want a good car to tweak out for a racing oval, then get a 95' police interceptor... they are FASSST... PD's are not supposed to sell them at auctions so it might be hard to find them.

I had a 74 Toyota Corona once. OMG what a gutless piece of crap. Even with an inline 6/ AT, I could send a fart downwind faster than this car could drive. :!:

definitly not the worse, but my first car was a gift from my mother, her 96 mercedes c220, pushin only 150hp inline 4, 3200 punds of pure german steel, it was one of the highest quality cars ive ever driven. i pounded the sh** out of that car racing and never had a problem until one day me and my buddy were racing in the canyons when i downshifted the automatic trans to 3rd to pass in the opposite lane and i did with flying colors until i reached bout 100mph shifted back to 4th and a transmission gasket broke and trans fuild leaked on my exhaust and caused the biggest smoke screen for anyone behind me. i got it fixed and after that it just kept breaking. Never anything went wrong with the engine or any other part of the car other than the transmission and that was after 120k miles and extreme racing conditions.

Blue book value is $6500, i got it for $2000. Really cheap to fix, has an alt that puts out 14.5 volts... There are a lot of reasons, it isn't a sports car, but its really good A to B.

1993 plymouth sundance. i owned it for about two years and only drove it for roughly six months of that whole time because it was always dead. nothing but bad luck with that car. thankfully i suckered the dealship into accepting it for a trade so i could get my lovely jetta. the odd thing is, i had to buy that dumb car because another dealership took away another jetta i had for two months.

In Johannesburg in South Africa, the Metro Police that patrol the highways for speedsters and they like drive either BMW M3/M5's or Volvo S40's. They also have a fleet of Mercedes Benz C240(?)'s. They are not stock either. Not much hope of getting away from them in my 1.8 Jetta :(

My first and crappiest car was a 1977 Buick Skylark. Garbage! I bought it for $600 when I was 15. I ended up dumping $2000 into it, then sold it two years later for $800. In the meantime I had saved enough money for a 1985 Toyota 4X4, those trucks were the stuff back then. (1991) Drove that truck through hell and back, sold it to my sister who did the same. After the truck I bought a 1989 Honda Prelude, which really wasn't that bad of a car. No power however, but the thing cornered nicely without mods. After my sister wasted the truck, she bought the Prelude. I then found the car I have had since then, (1996) My red 92 Jetta. The longest I ever owned a car before this one was roughly two years. I have had this Jetta 8 years now, going on 9. So basically the VW has been the one I have been happiest with. 8)

Allright, here is the fleet of cars I have had since 2001
1979 Ford Ranger - PURE crap.
1989 Ford Tempo V6 AWD - POS, had tranny problems up the wazoo.
1989 Jetta GL Wolfy Edition. This car rocked! Sold it to my brother to get:
1991 Jetta Turbo Deisel - Sold this to my good friend to get:
1998 Jetta GLX VR6 - This was my most favorite car ever... Totaled it.
1984 Rabbit Diesel L. This was the spectical of all beaters, but it ran awesome
1993 Mercedes Benz 300E --- This car has lots of power, and is very nice, but it's an automatic, and it just doesnt drive like a VW... I don't really like this car.
1991 Jetta Coupe. I've had this since about July. Slowly working on it to get it in top notch condition. This will be my daily driver. She's running on 2 cylinders right now due to some engine problems, but run good despite this.
1990 Jetta GL --- Bought this for 100 bucks, but the head gasket is blown, so I figured i'd just part it out for parts for the coupe.
1986 Ford Mustang GT with V8 5.0 High Output in it. I accquired this for free from the guy I bought the 1990 Jetta from, but it is missing the title, so I'll have to apply for a lost title. This is going to be my super fast car some day.
Other than that, that's pretty much the line up. Since 2001 I pretty much have got a different car every 3 months, on average. I had the 1988 Jetta the longest of all. Hopefully this coupe will be with me for decades to come.

AHHHH fond memories of growing up in an 84 volvo 240 DL my first car. :screams and runs: oh man that car was such a beater it was ok in 84.
and i dident mind driving it BEFORE my mom crashed it and mangled the front end. and goes ooops sorry. so i was stuck with that junker for a while .it was so embarrasing to drive cause everone would look at me like, typical kid
goes out and rearends someone. it was a wiring nightmare the whole harness disintegrated so i had to rewire the whole engine. FUN
went through 3 alts, 2 radiators. 3 waterpumps (they dont like to seat properly  ) 1 trasmission 3 clutches and the list goes on and on and on and on
but ya that was the biggest hunk i ever owned
i love my jetta!!! its the most reliable car i ever owned , back and forth across the country 3 times from CA to FL and the only thing i ever had to change on that trip was my radiator hoses.
