On paper, their harshly underpowered, but they're a friggin blast to drive.

I harshly disagree... It had a slush-o-matic and that thing was faster than than a lot of other VW's I have driven.

Thats why I specifically said "on paper". Theres nothing underpowered about it when you're driving it. Thats the case with pretty much all of the 16v cars.

The 2.0L 16V passat is slower than your granny and her walker. MABEY the 5 speed would be quicker, but the auto's are slow AS molasses. The Jetta with the 1.8L 16V in it is incredibly quicker, so I could only imagine how fast a 2.0L 16V with a 5 speed in a jetta would be. I raced a new 6 cylinder subaru in a 1.8L jetta and spanked it sideways.

Actually, the only reason they are ugly is because of the front grille, which is totally interchangeable

The B3's have what some people call the 'pug-nose', or the lack of an actual grille, whereas the B4 cars have a front grille.

I just joined and I have a Passat. 1.8 Turbo with a 5 speed. A wagon that will run the wheels off my Celica ragtop sports car. Go figure. And it is a real blast to drive. A wagon. Even with 3 dogs in the back, it is a blast to drive. V-Dub's rule the house!

I have a 2006 Passat 2.0T. Auto. Bought it for about 14k with 23k mi.
All new:
Exhaust
Downpipes
ECU
Shocks
Springs
Steel threaded brake lines
Xenons
Etc.
Spent about $7000 with everything, just gave a short list above, but now im pushing right at about 300hp as well as 300tq.
This thing is a beast, I have beaten stock STI's as well as Evo VIII's.
GTI's and GLI's arent even in the same class anymore lol
Saving up for a stage 3, I should be pushing next to newer S4's by the time Im done with her :)
