The question is, how the HELL do you reinsert the speedo cable into the cluster when it's time to install it again? Notice how he convieniently uses a long screwdriver to take it off.

Actually, while we are on the subject... Does anybody have a link to the site that has those cluster design templates? Like in PSD or in Jpg or something? I remember somebody bringing that up at one point.

my question is, why did he have to go under the hood to disconnect the speedo cable? A 2 piece cable? wtf? ive NEVER seen that before... mines easy, stick your arm up behind the dash from the foot well below, press the tab, off it comes, couldn't be easier...

i think the 2 piece cable hes talking about is from the spedo to the reset box
and from the box to the tranny.they both screw in from opposite sides.
correct me if im wrong but im thinking a1s have the one piece cable.i dont know though just a guess.

no see thats why im confused... my 88 has a 1 piece cable... EVERY single one of my friends mk2s i have ever known have had 1 piece cables... theres no box in the engine compartment... i don't doubt it exists, but I have never seen... ill have to have a look in the bentley to see if they show one in there

Mine aren't good enough? I'm Jk. I know yours is different.

BTW I have a template.. well its a scan of the gauges, and I made one blue too. Mine has the gas gauge and temp gauge as part of the tach. Email me if you want it, raging_freestyler@hotmail.com. It is canadian style (km/h) and the speedo goes up to 220 and the tack to 7000 rpm.

You defintly don't need to remove the steering wheel to take the cluster out. One way I have heard of reinserting the speedo cable is to remove it from your tranny, pull some slack through the firewall into the driving area, insert it onto the cluster while it is out of the dash, then when you put the cluster back in just go the tne engine compartment, pull the speedo cable back out and hook it back up.
I have never done this. I always just reach up under the dash and hook it up.
