Hey guys. Im about to buy either a K&N filter with an air vortex insert or a GHL cold air intake. I want to upgrade for mostly getting better gas mileage and increased response. Im tempted to get the cold air intake, for ive seen really outstanding testings of air intakes in Eurotuner. However, during winter here in CA, it rains alot! Because the cold air intake is close to the ground, I am concerned that the filter may suck in water.

Do you have cold air intakes and have experienced any problems with them being close to the ground? Any tips or advice will help! Thanks!

You could just get an air intake like me, not a cold intake. That way it's not close to the ground.

The intake WILL suck up water, What I would do is custom fab a splash guard of some sort..maybe out of plexiglass or something?

Definitely look into P-Flow's. I have one on my mk4, and I don't have to worry about water or anything. Also, it's a LOT less expensive. Check out these on ebay.

I was originally going to go with a p-flow type, but I read an article on Eurotuner about those sucking in lots of hot air and causing the car to lose power.

What about those air inserts that creates a vortex effect? Has anyone used one of those?

Wow, that forum really helped! Thanks burn! :D

So my finalized choices will be either a K&N filter or a GHL Cold Air Intake. I really want to get this particular intake because from EuroTuner's testing, it was able to give the car a nice 10-12 lb-ft at 3000 rpm to the wheels. Its tempting, but im still concerned about it being close to the ground and sucking in water. However, a good thing with my suspension is that it is lowered very minimally (approximately half an inch). Do you think this should help a bit? Im still a bit vexed about this. :?

you can get this rubber fitting to go between yoru air filter and your intake tube, it will stop water from going into your engine but a water soaked filter is not gonna do you wany good anyways.
