Ok, I have been having a problem with my steering wheel shaking at 45mph+. I went and got my rims balanced and it rode smoother for the ride home. I got home and left again. Once i got on the highway i kicked it up a bit and burnt out in 2nd, the car steering wheel started shaking again. How when I went to get my rims balanced the people told me my lugs bolts were too short and that I really need longer ones because i only have about a quater inch of thread holding the rims on. So i took the car to a rim shop and talked to them about getting longer lug bolts. They told me that I should get studs and do a lug NUT conversion because aftermarket rims aren't made to be put on with lug BOLTS. So is this true what do you guys think!? Help me out please!

I don't see how there would be a differance between lugs and studs but I'm not an expert here...
Is it possible that it needs an alignment?

Well, i can let go of the steering wheel and it doesn't pull to either direction, So no it doesn't need an alignment. Keep ti coming though I appreciate it guys!

I think lug nuts have some sort of locking mechanism... but I'm not positive on that...

aftermarket rims aren't made to be put on with lug BOLTS. So is this true what do you guys think!? Help me out please! mine came with lug bolts when i bought the wheels new but
i do have an A2 4 bolt pattern i dont know too much about the A3 wheels but the proper size lugbolts should be just fine IMO.
if your not sure DONT spend the money on a conversion find out for sure first.

you need these:
http://www.1010tires.com/hubrings.asp

aftermarket wheels usually don't have the precise machined centre hub hole required by VW hubs to centre the wheel (VW wheels are 'hubcentric')

do not go back to that tire shop you were at... they obviously know nothing about VW wheels and lug bolts. a stud conversion, give me a break

The other thing you should check is if your lugs are actually seating in your wheels properly... factory VW lugs are ball seats, most aftermarket wheels require cone seats. look here:

I bought a full set (16) of Gorilla tuner lug bolt for my wheels:
http://www.gorilla-auto.com/products/?sfID1=249&sfID2=252&productName=S%2FD+BOLTSℑ=5529.jpg
they are awesome, extremely well built, perfect seating in my primax wheels and slightly longer in length so they go all the way thru the hub for maximum strength. HIGHLY recommend!
