I got a 2.0L. Being that Im trying to build a show car, I dont know if I should throw in a turbo or just a supercharger. Anyone have any ideas??

Superchargers are more classy for show car's... A turbo just sits behind the motor, you can't see it... If I had the choice between the two, and I was building a showcar, I would most definatly go for the supercharger.

You do make a point about the turbo sitting in the back of the motor. I can get the neuspeed supercharger for like $2400 or so. Maybe Ill go with that.

That actually is a pretty good deal for a bolt on charger that comes with everything you need.... I still recomend www.eiptuning.com for their copper head gasket on the inline 4 to reduce compression without risk of blowing the headgasket and risk blowing the motor... IE: don't stack head gaskets.

Superchargers are generally more expensive, but he's right... Superchargers are more reliable, and run LOTS cooler, but the downside they use a little bit of flywheel horsepower to run them... That's why some people stand beside turbo systems instead.

This is kind of off topic. I hear alot of talk of BOVs and wastegates, I know what thay are and what they do, but why? I've never worked on a gas turbo engine before only TDs (the smallest being an IH T444E, 444cid V8), and have never seen a BOV or WG. I know on medium and large frame diesels, the more boost the better, you can't get too much.
BTW the only SC diesels I've worked on were large Detroit 2 strokes that red line at 2000 - 2200. The largest engine I worked on was in a Caterpillar D8 dozer..... and it was a pull start.

My car has a Wastegate I know this cause my "wastegate regulator valve" went out or something and I had to replace it.

Yeah... Internal wastegate, if I am not mistaken.

I would go with turbo only for the fact that its fairly cheap to build your own setup if you know how turbos work. Go for turbo if you are mechanically inclined and like to tune. Turbo's can be flashy with the piping and all and a nice front mount intercooler is always nice to see.
you'll put down more hp out of a simple turbo kit than you will with neuspeeds SC. I saw 2 really good priced Neuspeed chargers for sale on the Vwvortex one was $1600 the other $1700 which is a hell of a deal. S/C's are more reliable on the high note so i guess it all boils down to your preferences. :)

I like the whole turbo idea and running a whole bunch of chromed out pipes throughout the whole thing thatd be more show nething else...the supercharger is great in the long run but for show purposes and all around performance and flexibility not a good choice.... it sits on top and the neuspeed is plain black and doesnt look too good unless you plan on putting the blower through the hood of your Jetta(which would look ridiculously sick) i wouldnt go with the SC...GO TURBO!!!!

if you are worried about reliability on the turbo....just run 5lbs or boost unless you are a serious lead foot, that should be realiable on a daily basis...I plan on running 7 psi
