Wanted to check out with some of you who have chipped out your VR6 cars and see what you recommend. So far I have checked out GIAC, Techtonics and Neuspeed. If there are others that you guys could recommend or have had experience with, let me know as I am going to take the plunge.

I don't have time to check if they sell vr6 chips, but have a look at www.concept1.ca I'll bet they could give you a really good unbiased opinion on them.

Well, looks like I'm going to contact Techtonics tomorrow because they don't have any email contact. The neuspeed guys replied the same day I emailed them about their chip, good customer service. Here is Techtonics descrpition of the product on their website:
Programed for better performace with out lost in gas mileage. Higher rev limit. Custom made chips for cars with cams or other mods available . ECU # needed for Passat
Price: $100.00
And that's all folks! However I checked into GIAC's chip, and they list the different ecu numbers that thier chip is compatible with. When I entered my ecu number, it came up as a Corrado ecu??? Oh well, it really doesn't matter, once I contact TT I will post up what they claim thier chip does.

ide go with the chip that allows you to still run 87 octane, so you can still advance your timming for even more power.

Well, I called Techtonics today and got some info. They pretty much program the chip to whatever you want. I requested a 7100 rpm rev limiter, no top end governor. My ecu has a socketed chip so installation should be a peice of cake. (just like the digi II chip I did back in November) The fellow on the phone stated that the chip gives roughly 8.5 hp gains at the crank. That probably translates into 5 hp at the wheels. So basically for $100 I am adding a powererful Briggs $ Stratton to my existing VR6. I am just looking forward to better throttle response, better top end speed. The chip should hopefully be here before the end of the week, then I will post a DIY if anyone is interested and tell how it makes the car feel.

With a vr6+A2+techtonics chip I would lose by like 50 car lengths lol

He think's its slow. He owned me when I was in the mercedes... I just couldnt keep up with him.
Mercedes 300E vs TDI = a Tie race
Mercedes 300E vs A2 VR6 = cedes gets owned
That's with a digifant 8V 8v cat and exhaust... If he got a better exhaust and a chip, that thing would be unstopable.

even with a bigger intercooler I dont know how good I would do against him.

Well the chip is on it's way, should be here hopefully before the week is over. If I can get the right Torx screwdriver, it should be a quick 30 minute install. The rev limiter will be at 7100 rpm, with no top end governor as mentioned above. I changed out the oil and filter today with oem filter and Mobil-1 full synthetic. $50 oil change with that kind of oil. 8O Even after getting decent oil in there after the mix and match sludge was drained seemed to help. Now I need to get a basic conical 3" K&N on the car, getting rid of the autozone "rice."

can the vaulve and springs take 7100 rpms? and can you still run 87 octane so you can advance your timming?

I think that the valve and springs can handle it, but not on a consistent basis. Maybe once in a blue moon would I take advantage of the rev like that. I am mostly interested in the slight increase in power, throttle response and top end increasing. The Vr6 motor I have has the distributor, but I don't believe that it is adjustable to change the ignition timing. I usually run 91 octane gas all the time.

well i kno in old 5.0 i just turn the dis. till the timming is where i want it. but i don't know how in VW, like i see a adjustable cam gear but i dunno for sure. i need to find out because i am going to advance my timming. but you def. need to find out. cuz you will notice a power incresse, ill ask my vw tech guy he had a hoped up vr6 ill ask him. unless you can't wait. then by all means find out.
