Ok, so I'm going to buy an intake, and then settle down on spending so much money for a while. I'm really leaning towards Injen, I like the look, and I've only heard good things about their performance. Any other opinions? I don't want K&N filter btw, I want a full intake.

Although intakes provide minimal power gains, buying an Injen or Aem pipe and combining that with an Apexi universal filter should give you a much better power gain. Check out apexi's universal filter at www.apexi.com

So you're saying just buy the pipe from injen, and get the filer from apexi? What's the difference in doing that to just getting a whole injen setup?

Oh, also, should I get a heatshield? One site claims 1 hp gain for every 10 degrees (F) reduction.

The difference with apexi's filter is that it is the only filter in the market that uses a funnel to ensure that all the air goes down the pipe efficently. This boosts its power gain compared to many typical ones on the market.

The heat shield protects the intake from sucking in hot air from the engine. Its a good optional addition.

Intakes usually dont give you too much power gains (unless its a turbo), but the matching I've shown you with the pipe and apexi filter should give you the best "bang for your buck."

Well then, I'll try it

I don't know much about these setups, but a heatsheild is defintly a good idea.

dude if you wanna use heat sheild shuff. go to home depot and ask for heating duct wrap. it will look like bubble wrap sandwhiched between 2 peices of tin foil. then wrap your intake in that. i got some off of a job site but it is fire resistant and blocks an insane about of heat. ill take a pic of the left overs i have.

with the money your gonna spend on the intake and heat shield filter etc you could save that towards a part that would give a better power gain for the money

*I saw this sign today and I had to snap a picture of it. I know I'm crazy, but what else do you use a camera phone for?

Eurotuner had an intake competition on this month's magazine. The top 2 intakes that gave out the most power was from ABD Racing ( www.abdracing.com ) and Ghl Motorsports ( www.ghlmotorsports.com ) Both had about the same power output and good prices, but I choose the ABD racing because it looked very presentable compared to the GHL. Also, it has a detachable extension pipe for those really wet and stormy winters. :D

Did they test a "swiss cheesed" box with a k&n panel filter? Ive heard several times that this works just as good if not better than the aftermarket stuff

That would be cool if they included that...

I read an old article in Eurotuner about the different types of intakes (forgot which mag, possibly a 2002). They recommended either installing a k&n filter in the stock air intake or getting a cai. They DONT recommend installing a short ram intake because it sucks alot of hot air. In conclusion, they stated that if you wanted more power, get the cai. If you wanted a "safer" upgrade, then they recommend the K&N filter. 8)

Heres a link that gives a little more in depth of what they mean. It is a different source, but it basically has the same info. Enjoy! :D

That black Injen RD series cai sure is pricy, but look at that beautiful finish!
