Been wanting to get a chance to see what kind of stereo setups you guys have got. I'll start:

http://www.hostdub.com/albums/WasatchVR6/Stereo_system.sized.jpg

- Pioneer DEHP-825 headunit
- MTX three band crossover
- 2 MTX 280 amps (for the mids and tweets)
- 1 MTX 2160 amp (for the subs)
- Pioneer 12 Disc changer
- JBL 3.5" coaxial speakers in the front dash
- JBL 5.25" component speakers in the front doors, tweets mounted in door card.
- Pioneer 4X10's mounted in the rear door cards
- JBL 6X9's with spacers mounted in the rear dash.
- 2 JBL 12's mounted in sealed built-in enclosure, baffled, in the trunk.
- Custom battery terminals to accomodate 4 gauge wire for system.
- 40 amp inline fuse 4 gauge mounted in the engine bay.
- 1 Farad capacitor mounted to sub box behind rear seat armrest.
- 4 gauge wire leading to 4-way fuse block mounted behind the backseat armrest.
- 8 gauge wire leading to each active component in the trunk.
- 4 gauge ground wire leading to 4-way splitter located next to positive 4-way fuse block.
- 8 gauge ground wire leading to each active component in the trunk.
- 12' Phoenix Gold RCA shielded wire, two pair, running from the head unit to the MTX crossover in the trunk.
- 3' Phoenix Gold RCA shielded wire leading to each of the amps in the trunk.

This system took about a month to build, and came to a wallet crushing $4500.00. That was six years ago. So now I am sure that it is outdated and that there are better components out there. However the system works fine, and I haven't found a reason to replace it yet. It would be cool to see some of the ideas that you guys have come up with, perhaps to inspire a new system project here in the near future. :)

I'll bet it sounds great. At least you can take your sub box out for maintenance on your rear struts-springs. I have pull up my rear dash cover to get to that stuff.

well, the first system that i had in my jetta was two 12" solo baric L7 subs in a custom enclosure that fit the trunk, powered by two 1200 watt kenwood kac401m amplifiers...and two 1 farad capacitors....they pounded so loud i couldnt eat or drink in the car cause my throat would vibrate too much...
anyways i sold all that and now i have two 12" memphis mojo subs. these are incredable...also powered by 1200 watt kenwood amps...if you havent heard of memphis audio than im sorry, you dont know quality subs.

I was not going to post here, but I found out we have the same head unit that so far is the only mod I have done to my car. I replaced the original one not for the sound (for me it sounds ok) but also for the MP3/WMA capability.
For being honest I am the kind of guy that listens classical music, some pop and the news on the radio... so the Premium speakers are enough for me.

Anyway, here's a pic of my cousin's car, I don't know exactly what he has on it, but I can 'feel' when he is hanging out near home.... I hate his subs...

I don't think you should worry too much about the age of your system, the surround system in my living room is like from the 80's and it still blows me away every time i watch a movie on our big screen.

BTW, that's gotta be one of the sickest setups I've seen. Next to of course this Civic guy in town who's whole back seat is amps. He owns a shop so he basically has half of his work day to work on his car if he'd like.

I've got a Kenwood CD Deck puttin out 50W/Channel. Although it's all messed right now and I have to put in my security code every time I turn the car on.

Then I've got 2 4x4" Urban Audio Works speakers that came with the car in the front, and 2 6x9" Kenwood speakers from an early 80's Chevy S10 that my friend gave me. It sounds decent, no bass though.

My server is down so I can't post any images, but here's what I've got:

- Kenwood CD Deck, puts out maybe 11w RMS
- Pioneer 3.5" front coaxials
- JVC 5.25" three ways in the back
- Kenwood 500W (130W RMS) 10" Sub in the trunk (Sealed Box)
- Sony EXM-502 Amp (130W RMS bridged) powering the sub
- Scosche 8G wiring

The whole setup cost me around $130 Canadian.
Here's what I paid for each component:

Deck: $0 (free from sister's bf)
Fronts: $0 (from free parts car)
Rears: $30 (clearance sale)
Sub: $15 (friend)
Amp: $40 (it's ooold) + $15 Shipping
Wiring: $30

A little update:

Since cd players are about as popular as 8 tracks now, I deleted my 12 disc changer in the trunk for this device: Pioneer cd-rb10 adapter which allows a direct connect from the audio/video device you are using via 3.5mm to RCA adapter. No FM modulated garbage here.

Finished product. Yeah I know my plastic case on the ipod in scratched to hell. I use it a lot.

Music sounds great on it, also including a video or two.

Haven't done one since. Perhaps when the car gets some Kinetic action, or something along the lines. Still have most of the videos on the hard drive. Fun days!

My subs have been out of my trunk for a long time now :(

I now just have my upgraded front speakers, and my Sony head unit. Unfortunately, my head unit is dying and this is why I removed the subs, as the head unit was randomly sending signals to the subs, so they were always randomly thumping. Maybe I'll get a chance to upgrade now that I'm working again.
