i was driving on the hwy going 120 km/h. my car seems to like that speed. anyways, i was just going along, and suddenly my car just popped out of fifth gear. is this gonna be a reoccuring problem or what?

Correct me if i am wrong, but that is a sign of a worn out clutch

Not a clutch... THROW OUT BEARING... mabey... I doubt it tho. I have never heard of this before. Answer me this question, are your shifter bushings really really worn out? Is the shifter sloppy?

yeash I second the shifter bushings/linkage, fifth is a long throw and sloppy linkage might make it harder to reach so it might not fully engage...
nother thing to check is engine mounts they break and make for some funny shifter behaviour

Yeah... has anybody actually driven their car without the hood? The entire engine moves like 3 inches durring shifts! The can wreck havoc on a shifting system if the mounts are broken, and it's moving more than that.
just an addition on to my previous complaint....i now have trouble shifting into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd....whether gearing up or down (except first)
i think it's the clutch.
ok i figured out it was the clutch.. i'm gonna replace that this weekend. i can only shift up, and only if i start in first...sometimes....so my cars off the road for a coupla days.

how is it the clutch? is it not disengaging?
sometimes. it's not always screwing up though. sometimes it'll just pop out of gear (i'm assuming that it means i never was able to put it fully in gear). sometimes it will absolutely refuse to go into gear, as if i'm not even pushing the clutch in....but it always works for my reverse.

check the tension on your clutch cable. i found that the thing that the cable connects to on the tranny. that moves before it pulls the clutch. so when i put on the new cable. i pulled it up then tightend the cable to that so 1 there is no play in the clutch 2 so it disengages all the way. check on that.
the cable was fine. its a selfadjusting cable (as far as i can figure out). a friend of mine checked it out and thinks it would be a gasket/seal or something coming out of the transaxle. supposedly it was cracked, which would explain the oil i had dripping off my car, which i couldn't figure out where it was coming from. the part costs about 6$, but i would have to take apart a whole whack just to get at it. plus i would have to replace the lost oil.

damn.... that sucks 8O
its officially off the road until i fix the problem. now the car will not go into third gear...and when it does, it pops out after 5 seconds. so now i'm driving my parents 89 acclaim....*sob*(while curled up in the corner)
