As some of you may know, I don't actually own a car :( I want to buy a Jetta though, but I'll only be able to spend around $2,000 Canadian.

Any estimates on what I could get with that? I actually saw a 1987 Volvo with 427,000km on it for $2,000... but I'd rather get a Jetta.

You could probably get an A2 for that, fairly decent, probably will need some work.

If you are a gearhead, then you can find A2 jettas for like 100 bucks and fix them up. That's what I am doing with my coupe. Total, I am into it about 300 bucks total (USD, of course). The engine doesnt run that great, but it runs good enough to get it to the shop for my vr6 swap

I'm not much of a gearhead, more interior/exterior stuff. Luckily my dad's good with that kind of stuff so I'll get him to teach me... if I can find one. I picked up a copy of the 'Bargain Hunter' today... usually there is a large abundance of Jettas in there... but not this time, not a single one. I'll have to wait a little longer I suppose.

Also, my neighbor works at a body shop that neighbors Ford so he gets some good discounts there and said he could hook me up, hopefully someone brings a Jetta down to Ford because if they did I'd be able to get it before they wash it and add on a good $2,000.

I got my Jetta for $150. It ran fine with the exception of a high idle. Of course, it was in need of some serious work, and by the time I am done I should be in about $500 in parts. Canadian of course.

I actually know of a guy selling a golf for $1000. I think it's a 1990, little to certify, GTA area. If you want good deals on cars, check out vwvortex.com and go to canadian clasifieds. There's some good stuff there, at least 10 pages worth.
