I'm installing power windows on my Jetta one day, I have them they are just in a box still. I think all you have to do, is install the power window regulator, switches and relay. Then run the wires from the windows to the relay to the switches. I'm going to make a DIY out of the project when I get around to doing it. I actually might start it this weekend.

The thing is I still need the relay. Slalom couldn't find it when he hooked me up with everything else. I'll check out the scrap yards. I'm sure I can get one for cheap. Then I need to buy the wire and I'll be good to go

Just for further refrence for other people thinking about this "project" how much did these things cost all together?

Whats about power door locks, you might as well install them while you are running power throughout the doors and you already have the panels off and stuff.

Anyone one else know anything about changing over to power locks?

I'm really looking foward to the DIY burn!!

power door locks can be done easily with a universal kit like this

you could do that, but the factory VW power lock system in mk2s (and mk3s) is an archaic vacuum operated system with little rubber and plastic vacuum lines running thru the car to each door and trunk... it works, but far more work and complexity compared to a simple universal lock system.

I think I'll try to do the install this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes once I am done. The pictures might take a while becasue my friend takes them (I don't have a digital camera) and the sends them to me. He took some last weekend of my 3-wheeler and I still haven't seen them.

Another problem is I don't have a relay, I'll check the scrap yards soon though, and I also can't start my car (no heater core) so I don't know how long until I can test this out, unless someone knows if I can use the windows with the car in the "run" position but without it running.

burn, yep windows should work with key in run position... all depends how you wire it too i guess :)

It all depends on if my friend with the digital camera can come over. I'm going to go over the diagrams in the Bentley and try and figure out what gauge of wire I need etc. Hopefully this will pull through.

My whole interior is out of my car, all except the headliner. I just didn't have time to get the wire or relay this week. And next week is thanksgiving so that'll take care of that weekend. Hopefully I can get this car out of the garage soon, because at the end of October my dad is kicking me out :( Maybe I won't have a car til the spring.
