I'm 17... I got my "L" license last in August of 2003, this is where, for 6 months, you have to drive with someone over 25 with a class 5 drivers license. But... in October or so, I found out that they were changing the driving rules for people getting their "N" license (new drivers) so, instead of being able to take as many passengers as you have seatbelts, you're restricted to 1 passenger (but you can have as many immediate family members as you have seatbelts).

Personally, I think this is the stupidest rule, I don't know how many of you live in B.C. but, this rule sucks so much. I can't carpool with my friends, I can't even be a designated driver! But... ICBC tells me that this will lower teen driving crashes by 20% or some crap like that (how can they know this?).

Anyways, another reason for this change is because of street racing, now, I know that I'm not the only one who'd love to race my friends... but please, for the sake of the kids who are just getting their licenses, hold back, go on an old abandoned road, anything other than in plain site of anyone. I don't mean to be like this because it's your decision, but if this stuff spreads to more provinces and states, more people are gonna be as disgusted in this rule as myself and my friends are.

When my little brother gets his license, he'll have to have his 'L' for 12 months, unless he wants to be $800 to take a course which will allow him to get it in 9 months. Then after that, he'll have to have the same awful 'N' rules as I have, and it really sucks.

The stupidest part about this is, it just makes it more of a reason for kids to load their vehicles full of people, normally they wouldn't, but now that it's illegal who's not going to be tempted to do it? my friend had like 8 people jammed in his '82 Cutlass (1 in the trunk).

I don't know where I'm going here, just venting about how annoying ICBC is.

Same way in Georgia, Luckily I'm 18 now though, so those rules don't apply :)

Yeah, btw I'm not laying the blame on anyone in here, since around here it's these couple of Honda/Toyota guys that are always racing.

One of the guys (Toyota) has like a massive decal down the car, he's... 21 or so, and his girlfriend is 15, but maybe she's 16 now. Anyways, he's like a newbie pedophile and the others seem pretty cool but get owned to hell against this guy I know who's dad's car is the fastest street legal car in B.C. or something.

Over here in Ontario, we have a somewhat simliar license process. Except our second level license (G2) is basically the same as a full license (G) excecpt you can't have any alcohol in your system and everyone has to have a seat belt. With the G1 (learners permit), you have to drive with someone who has had thier full license for 4 years or more and you can't drive between 12-6 and you can't drive on roads with posted limits over 80 km/h. You can reduce the G1 period to 8 months if you spend $300-$500 for driving school.

I think our license set up is pretty good, except for the G2 license is basically the government pulling $100 out of my pocket to get it..
In total, just for licenses from G1 to G, it will cost you $200.
