I am wondering what are the highest speeds people have cruised their diesels at? My engine is loud at 120-125km/h (75-77mph) Not to psyched to push it past that. I have a '93 Jetta TD with 328, 000 km's on it.

Whilst racing a honda on the freeway in my 1.6NA (yes I said naturally aspirated) I floored it, and the thing wouldnt go any faster than 92.3 mph... I'll be the car would have blown up if I kept that up much longer. 92.3 is the ABSOLUTE maximum speed of a 1.6L NA with stock tire sizes.

going ona slight downhill i did 165KM/hr... but that doesnt really count...
On flats i can do just over 155KM/hr but my car doesnt like me when i do that so i only have done it once.. ok or maybe twice or so

the tdi has a lot more power, that means the gear ratios can be bigger... 5th gear must be a REALLY tall gear to get the car up to 130 at 4,500rpm...

When I drove truck, an IH 4700 I drove would redline at 65 and would top out at 70, it had a 7.3 V8 TD. With a full load and loaded trailer, it would top out at 55-60, and the tranny temp would exceed 400 degrees (auto).

These are the heavy duty trucks?

It's a 2 ton truck, a light-medium duty, one step above a Ford super duty, a hevy-light duty truck. The IH 7.3 is IHs low end, POS engine (rated for 150,000 miles), it's the same engine as Fords power stroke. It was built for medium frame trucks, and is under power for them, but put it in to a light frame (Ford SD) and it's a good strong engine.
I also drove a couple of GMC (Issusu built) cab-overs rated at 5 ton, they had 6.9L I6 OHC engines that were much more powerfull, but were over redline (2200 rpm) at 65.

Yeah, the older ones... Speed rated for when highway speeds were 55 a few years back.

Same with my dads truck... He has a 2000 Dodge cummins diesel, 6spd, 5" exhaust, Chip all the exterior goodies too!

Dude a chiped duramax would wipe the floor with a cummins. Cummins are freaking weak. You can get a chip installed at the DEALER, this is STOCK OEM parts, and the Duramax with stock exhuast and intake has over 850lb ft of torque AT THE WHEELS.

Cummins isnt even made by dodge.... the only thing dodge had going for it was a great chassis, but now they are 50% plastic, (and pure ****)... I love the silverado chassis, and the duramax is can be VERY fast with minimal modification.

My mark III 2.0 is electronically limited to 121mph... found that out the hard way. Thought I blew the engine up when it started cutting out.
