SO i went to the wreckers today after my Sunday biking (broke my handel bars) and they were CLOSED.
Whats the deal with wreckers closed on Sundays ???

Anyhow, i got monday off, and will hopefully be swiping a Intercooler from a Audi 5000 Turbo...

Unless anyone else has a better idea of what one i should be grabbing.[/b]

If you want to do some front end modding, get an intercooler from a ford powerstroke... That'll triple your torque if you play with the wastegate settings.

I was going to tell him to buy a PowerStroke one.

how heavy are the mods req?
so the Audi is a no go then?

edit
ok did some looking into that, and was that a joke about that intercooler.
its 39'' x 18''. Where the hell am i suppost to fit that.
I just too a quick look at my car, and i cant for the life of me see where that would go.
It would be pretty sic though

edit 2...

so i was talking to a wrecker on the phone autobahndismantlers.com and he was like no point for a 1.6T as the turbo isnt strong enough. He sadi something along the lines of by the time the air goes through the intercooler i will have lost all my boost... this was in regard to an intercooler off a 91-92 VW G60 motor

What a dumbass... Trying to upsale you. The stock turbo charger on the 1.6 can make 25PSI if you adjust the wastegate.... There will be bigtime pressure drops if you use the powerstroke intercooler, but this is where you would adjust the wastegate settings to push more psi... You have to kinda play with it. Just because audi is associated with volkswagen doesnt mean you have to use their intercooler... The only reason I reccomend it is that they can be mounted to create a somewhat stock appearance... ANY intercooler will work, they all do the same thing. The powerstroke intercooler will fit in front of the radiator, but you'll have to take a grinder to your bumper and radiator mounts..... Totally worth it, might i add.

I had some second thoughts, but figured you knew what you were talking about since you hvae done it...

I went out and got a 91 Mazda 626 intercooler...
not 100% sure how i am gona mount it yet, but thats 1/2 the fun now isnt it

Is the 1.6 turbo really efficient at pushing air into the engine though? That 25psi must tax the turbo...

Well, the turbo is capable of psi a lot higher than that, it's just merely controlled for economy, it's not going to hurt your turbo.
