Hi everyone. I am having a bunch of issues with my 1998 VW Cabrio Automatic tranny
The Speedo has completely stopped working,. The other gauge that does the RPM, works fine. I am having issues with my fuel gauge in which it goes up and down when I drive or brake. Also other things like the seatbelt light goes on and off randomly but rarely, and the emer parking brake doesnt work anymore. Also my cruise control also stopped working completely.
My check engine light comes on , we cleared the codes at my dads body shop but it came on again, but that might be a different issue. I know one of the hoses broke off under the hood so that might be why.
But I am VERY confused about what to do with the Speedo issue. My CHILTON manual says the speed sensor is located on the back of the cluster. I pulled the cluster but dont see ANY sensor on the back.
I was told THIS is the part I need

But when I am reading the old forum posts it says its on the transaxle? Now I am confused.
I also saw online that it says the speed senor can be seen by opening the hood and it is attached to the transmission.
So I am getting multiple answers on where it is located.
When I looked for the part speed sensor online, a bunch of different onces came up. I know there are other sensors such as ABS speed sensors for the left and right tires but are these separate sensors ?
I also read on a few VW forums that it could be the instrument cluster that is bad because of a bunch of issues, but I dont want to buy parts and find out it still doesn't work.
Any help would be good. I know nothing about cars, my dad is a body mechanic but he doesnt know electrical work or VW's at all.
I have AIM also if any techs want to try to give me some help or email also @ redwallsblack@gmail.com
