well i started the car today and notcied a little hesatation on start up. so it cranks over and i see this smoke comming out of the muffler, white! but since my town got flooded last night and today, i figured that moisture got inthere since my garage had about a foot of water, so it goes away. so im like ok it burned it all out. went out and the car as useally gets hot, but moreso today so i get it home qucik with the defroster on hot and blasting so i got the fan blowing by the heater core and the fan on the rad on. so i park it, wait about a hour then turn it back on, and nuttin. its cranking but its not fireing, so it finally kicks over, but is barely running. so it stalls, and it wont fire up again, its cranking but nothing. so i figured het my MAF went. so i swap it out. nothing, so maybe its the ECU, swap that out. nope, so i check all the vaccume lines, nothing, all the grounds, nada. so i check for spark, yep got spark, so i check for fuel, yep got fuel. so i spray some carb cleaner down into the intake, and it struggles to life, but dies again. so i put more in, its yet agins struggles to idle at 400rpms, so i gently hit the gas it sputters up then starts to smooth out. and bam! i look in my rear view mirror and there is a cloud of white smoke behind my car. so i pull it in the garage asap and turn it off. the car is tapping bad. so im hopeing to *** i blew the headgasket, and not cracked the block! cuz then ill have 2 useless 1.8 8V sitting in my driveway. but when i do the head gasket im puttin in a cam. so thats some incentive, and if i cracked the block im putting in a VR6 or somthing. but anyways. if you think it could be the block let me know. so i don't waste the money on the parts for the head gasket.

ohhh man that would make me scream then curl up in a corner and cry!!!
well i dont know how handy you are with cars or if your a mechanic,
but i woudl take it to a specialist (make sure its someone you trust) and get it looked at
it sounds like your head gasket but , dont go buy parts before you KNOW whats wrong , i suggest more investigation .
if your into it start pulling the engine apart and tell us what you see.
but look at the bright side of things ! when shes back together shell run like new!

Hey im really sorry about that. I don't think you can just crack a block like that unless the engine was running hot and you drove it through deep water. Correct me please if someone thinks otherwise im here to learn more about cars!

i agree 100 percent as long as you dident drive it without coolant and it diddent WAY over heat your block shouldent be cracked.

It's virtually impossible to crack a volkswagen engine block with overheating. The aluminum head will go long before the block cracks, in which case the motor won't run when the head goes, so rule out that it was overheating that cracked the block.
The only real way to crack the block is to put water instead of antifreeze inside the engine, and then have it freeze. Judging by where you live, I doubt that freezing was the case. Water could have entered the crankcase through any of the numerous entrances, but water in the crankcase would cause a lot of friction in the cylinders, and therefore seize the engine long before it would crack the block. Course, the water could have caused the friction to become so high that the engine could have thrown a rod, and a rod just slapping around inside the crankcase at anywhere from 1,000 to 6,000 rpm could have hit the side of the crank case thus causing a crack... I dunno...
There had to be an underlying problem that caused this. I dunno... It'll be interesting to see what happened.

well if the car took in alot of water it could have bent a rod
yummeh or a valve but it sounds like your head is warped from over heating
