golf mk4 engine swap

hi there im new to this site so hello every1.. my girlfriend has a golf mk4 1.4 s and is gettin a bit board with the power but instead of changing the car for somethin else we are thinkin maybe an engine swap???? is the 18 20v turbo an expensive conversion?? what do i need??:confused: can any one point me in the right direction plz

1.4, eh? I guess that means you are in europe or somewhere else? We didn't get the 1.4 in North America. The 1.8T *IS* a worthwhile swap. Very good engine for a daily driver. It will be expensive... I'm guessing somewhere in the $2500 - $5,000 range. You should try to find a whole car that has been wrecked and use that for your donor. You'll need the engine (obviously), probably the transmission depending on the trans code of your 1.4. You'll also need the entire wire harness, ecu and probably the instrument cluster because of the immobilizer. This is assuming you have a manual transmission... if it's automatic, it might be too much work.
