Hey everybody i'm just saying hi and wanted to see if anyone could help me with some small issues in my new car. It's a 2001 jetta wolfsburg edition with the 1.8t. First when I start it sometimes it makes kinda of a short lived winding that dies out quickly. the moon roof/sun roof or whatever it is thats supposed to open when you turn the knob above where you sit, doesn't open. And other than that if anyone knows of anything I can check that may be real worn or need replacement, anything like that it'd be greatly appreciated and i'm greatly appreciative of any help I could get. Thanks again, and oh by the way...ever since I started driving my girlfriends 1.8t passat i've fallen in love with these cars, they're so amazing. later gentlemen

I had this problem when I first got my VW. THis is most likely your starter motor. The shaft in the starter is not receding back into the motor once it cranks the engine. You should either contact your local vw dealer or vw shop. There was an article on another forum: vwvortex.com but their archive isn't working right now so I can't look it up right now. The article had a DIY fix for the problem, so I would look around this site and that site for help as well. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy your new VW!:):)
