With all the problems or air vent selectors deteriorating, while I have my interior apart, should I scrape off my foam and glue on some cardboard or something as a preventative measure? I think the foam is still in decent condition. If I rub it it doesn't really fall apart and it seems to still be glued on there pretty good.

I have a 1991 Jetta diesel and I want to get rid of the A/C compressor and bracket. Does anyone know anything about obtaining the correct bracketry to make this possible? I imagine there had to be some Jetta made without A/C, so there has to be some way of converting this...right?
Thanks

I'm proud to announce that I have working A/C in my Mk2. I do not however have a working defroster. I can get air to come out of all the other vents but the defroster just a little tiny bit. This is related to the foam issue mentioned above? Btw I had to pull the compressor from a GLI to get it the A/C to work.

I will NOT drive a car without A/C.
I spent a bit of time getting it going but mine blows COLD!!!
I'm spoiled yes but if my car is equipped with it I see no reason why it shouldn't be functioning. Like Cruise control. I had to throw some parts at it but I was able to get it working. Again, if its there just as well be working.
