I'm sure alot of people are going to comment on my utter stupidity after reading this, but believe me, I am aware of how stupid my actions were and I will NEVER do this again.
Just so no one is disappointed, there are no VWs in this.
Here's how the story goes.
I work at GNC in the mall and it opens at 9am. If the store isn't opened on time the store receives a $1500 fine courtosy of the mall. The manager decided that whoever didn't open the store on time has to pay this. So I have to open the store this saturday, that's no big deal I do it all the time. However this time it's the first day after daylight savings time so everything is an hour before what it was the day before (spring ahead an hour). I live 15 minutes away from the mall and it is all highway driving.
My alarm goes off, it's 730, or so I think. Turns out I forgot to set my alarm clock ahead so it's actually 830. I don't know this yet so I am taking my time getting out of bed. 10 minutes later I finally get out of bed. On my way to the shower I notice the clock in the dinning room 8:40. OHOH that's not good. I quickly realize that I forgot to set my alarm ahead so I run into my room, throw on some clothes and then run to the bathroom to brush my teeth. (you can't sell products with bad breathe). I grab the keys and run to the car (1990 Eagle Priemer). This car isn't in the greatest of condition and it doesn't always start in the cold. It was winter or spring, same thing in Canada, anyways the car starts. I slap it into drive and get out onto the highway. The speed limit on the highway is 90 KM/H and just my luck there are 2 cars ahead of me going 80!! I almost lost it. There are like no oppertunities to pass these cars for like 5 minutes. Finally I see an opening, its close but I think I can make it. I put the pedal to the floor. Unfortunatly my car being in the peak running condition that it was (sarcasm), not too much happens. I pull out into the oncoming traffic lane and keep the pedal to the floor. I'm waiting for the wide open switch to enrichen the mixture only it doesn't happen, great. I'm half way past the first car and there is a car coming head on pretty fast. Not cool. I keep the pedal to the floor and the first car realizing my predicament drops back, not good enough. It's all or nothing at this point. I'm about 3/4 of the way past the second car now and the oncoming car is like right on top of me, there is no where near enough time to make it past this second car. Oh well. To late to drop back. I edge my way back into my lane, half forcing the car doing 80 off the road. Basically I pulled a Need For Speed manouver and get 3 cars going side by side on a 2 lane high way. Not the safest thing and needless to say there was ample horn blaring. I keep the pedal to the floor and went the last 10 minutes to town at 145. (It's spring so it's icy, my tires are bald but there's $1500 on the line that I don't have.) I pull into the mall parking lot, run to my store and get it open on time. My first customer doesn't come til like an hour later and they don't even buy anything. Oh well everyone is still alive and I didn't get a fine.

Thanks, I'm glad I'm not dead, or anyone else from that manouver(sp). If it had been a Jetta, this wouldn't even be a story worth telling...
