I live north of NYC in Rockland County, and I am currently doing a complete chassis rebuild of a 1983 Rabbit with a complete refresh of a 1.6 TD...
The motor that came with the car recently had the head replaced so I am keeping it the way it is, but the short block is getting bored .040 over with Kobelschmidts and blue printed....
Two questions for you lot...
1- is there anyone in my area that is close by that would like to give me a hand at certain stages of my restore, or at least to come over to have a beer, and mock my car
2- is there anyone nearby that knows how to set-up a fresh motor (in regardds to the IP)?
If beer is not a good motivator green backs may ALSO be included....
Anyway I am setting this car up to run on an SVO system.
Original 10 gallon tank with diesel, and an auxiliary 18 gallon tank behind the pass seat...
Thanks!

Well I'm by no means close but I can give you pointers as you progress.
I have a link somewhere that will help you set your timing.
I've been wanting to run WVO as well but I haven't been able to locate a supplier for the oil yet.
What are your plans for the return lines?
I was concerned about after switching back to diesel the WVO left in the lines would be returned to the fuel tank instead of the WVO tank and in Utah (I'll bet there as well) it gets damn cold in the winter and the last thing I want is gelled WVO in my diesel tank causing me problems when it's 20deg outside.

I forgot to ask , what year is your replacement engine?
Is it a solid lifter engine or hydraulic?
I'm going to recommend ARP head studs as well during your rebuild. VERY worth it.

First off... I read your whole thread, and was quite impressed... what is your fuel consumption per mile boosted at those ridiculous numbers...?
Anyway... The motor is from (I believe) a 1984 Jetta... I got the car with the motor in it from my buddy who owns New Jersey Motorsports.
From what I was told/read about WVO is that there are mainly three offshoots of it
1) What you and Mr. Diesel have been doing - Bio
2) What my brother does which is a blend (4 or 5 vehicles he has running on the stuff)
3) What I'm doing which is the easiest - Straight Vegie Oil.
All I plan on doing is getting (I believe) non-Hydrogenated VO that hasn't been overly cooked, and left out somewhere to gather a lot of water...
Oh Yeah... fuel lines... I am going to do some sort of HIH set up. I was going to use copper to transport the fuel itself, but apparently the VO when its hot breaks it down, and the by-product apparently does bad things to your motor...
I was going to run two separate fuel circuits, and then connect the fuel line as close to the IP as possible with an electric valve so that when I purge the system if any SVO is left in the pump it will be minimal...
I still havn't figured all of that out since I am going to just make sure I have the basic car running first before I start adding...
My goal is to be driving this car to work late August or early September...

PS- how the F' do you post pics?? I tried to copy and paste, and it would allow me to do anything, then I tried the link to insert images, and that was useless as well... I wanted to start a build thread.

Click on "gallery" and I'll bet you can figure out the pic posting.
I'm getting a average of 40mpg, freeway and city combined but 90% of my driving is freeway.
Mr diesel and I still haven't done anything with BIO, I kinda started leaning towards WVO like you. A simple dewater and filter process and you can put it in your car.
I think your plan of having the valve close to the IP would be fine, I was thinking of putting the valve in the back and that would have left to much wvo in the system. Moving it to the engine compartment makes more sense.
Get a thread started!!! :)

Oh ya!!
Dont read into the big boost #'s to much. I've destroyed 2 turbos to date. I'm keeping it down around 20psi currently.

How much boost are you running when you are getting 40...? The +-20psi?
And I guess how much you get into it would be a huge factor?
Anyway I would love to start a Thread about WVO... I guess I can start out talking about the basics, and then go into what I am doing...
Would you guys mind if I made reference to other Threads in Other Forums as well...???
This would be cool, and it would help me put down in words what I am trying to work out as well for my car...
Excellent...!!

While just cruising down the freeway it runs about 5psi. I only touch the 20psi area under hard accell like getting on the freeway or passing.
Go ahead and start a WVO thread. I wonder if we can talk Me Diesel into starting an "Alternative fuels" area, or maybe there is one but I havent looked.
If you are refering to linking your WVO thread located here to other places so others can read it go ahead.. More traffic is a good thing. And posting links in your WVO thread to info on the subject on other boards would be fine as well I'm sure.

I live about 1 hour from you, near the NY, NJ, PA border close to Port Jervis. I have a 1991 1.6L Jetta that I have recently done some engine work on including checking the IP timing. I am in progress of installing my Frybrid dual fuel WVO kit and I have a filtering/dewatering setup in my pole barn. Above all, I like to drink beer. Lets set something up!

Well, you can see it whenever you want. I finished installing it yesterday, although I am have a problem with my cooling system right now, but its in and does functions just about as advertised.
I was going to go with Greasecar's product, but when I included the extra cost for thier controller, I would have been paying the same amount as the Frybrid and the Frybrid is a better system, HIH instead of HOH.
Let me know when you have some time so we can set something up.

Beer was drank, A newly installed WVO system was looked over and explained, some shade tree mekaniking was video'ed and an 1983 Rabbit almost fell from a suspended height of about 3 feet.
Hey Grooves, when are you gonna post those pics and video?!

Cleaning up the engine bay, and stripping the old paint/ replacing it with gray por15...
Then the shortblock/tranny will be dropped in place.
I know I have taken a LONG break from here, but I am back!
