not trying to be a smartass, but check the air filter. i completely forgot about it, and then when i remembered it was solid brown. when i replaced it, i literally almost doubled my mpg.

Yeah... LOL!!! I dunno why diesel air cleaners get so dirty, but mine was like that... When I replaced it, the car was like 4 times a loud, and got like 130more miles per tank... I dunno just exactly how this would fare on a diesel with a kompressor.

my friends jeep does that....*** that thing is fubar lol to keep it from doing it we had to disconnect the PCV system and vent it old skool with a drip pipe that leads to the ground, doubt that would work for a diesel tho

To those who replied, I thank you. The filter did not seem all that dirty. However, I did learn that because of some sadistic Germany engineer; the air box is quite difficult to open. I assume the cone type filter systems are much easier to deal with.

thanks again

Clear your cookies if you are having login problems. How many miles does the car have again? Does it smoke? Does it leak fluids? How do you drive it?

How do you drive it?

that is a big one. Heavy foot = poor millage.

Also if you always see Brown/black smoke from your exhust even with a light foot, injectors could be worn
When i got mine replaced, no more smoke and way better millage

If you see ANY black smoke, that is unburnt fuel! When fuel is not being burned, that is economy out the window.

New filter + CAI (CAI = fresh, cold, non-sooty air) + valve cover mod = no more sooty air filters.
