OK, this isn't off topic, but rather a general question applicable to all VWs, so I didn't know where else to post. I saw a google ad for the spiralmax. www.spiralmax.com has anyone tried this? Does it sound like a scam? $70 is alot of money to pay for something that doesn't work. It has a 30 day no question asked trail period but I have to pay shipping, handling and duty. If anyone has some input let me know. Thanks

SCAM. Look at it this way... If this device modifies an intake to get UP TO 35 more horsepower, and 35% boost in fuel economy, and it's only "pennies on the dollar" then why do you think all manufacturers are not installing these as a stock product in their engines? Hell, the car company would probably buy the company if it actually did this...

Second reason why this is a scam, it says:

"0-35 horsepower increase"

Meaning, any number between those two numbers are a resulting amount... INCLUDING 0 (zero).

These do NOTHING for extra power, and probably lower fuel economy because of the restriction they make in the intake.

Yeah I saw that coming. I noticed that wonderful 0% increase as well. I sent them an email requesting that they give me the test results from a Jetta. I'll tell you what they say when they get back to me.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

Its not a scam and the product works based off a original product called the "tornado"...

I read a big article on it and people either said it worked or it sucked, I have even heard of cases where the product broke and sent shreds of metal into the engine... which even the biggest idiot in the world knows that cant be good.

I would not take the chance on sending shards of metal into my engine for a couple extra horsepower.

Ok sounds good, thanks guys. Here's the response to the email I wrote
"We refund 100% less s&h. There should be no duties, made in USA, but plan
for the worse.
Bob"

LOL plan for the worst...

I know someone who tried a very similar product in a commercial lawnmower, he read how much power he'd gain and how much he'd save in fuel costs, it caused it to run very rich and would foul out the spark plugs in 20 minutes (no joke).
I have read that the only pratical use for theese things is in stock cars on long races, they would gain about 1 hp, which in a stock car race could make a difference in breaking the draft of the car behind them.

My 2 cents.

Turns out emailing those guys was a bad idea. I've received 2 other emails from them trying to sucker me into buying their products(s). Conveinently hotmail has a block address feature.
