I think that you should consider eliminating rep points and making everyone equal (except mods of course). I know it sounds like communism but hey, everything has its pros. I think that when people without lots of rep points who have been contributing to the forum regularily see all the rep points that others have it is depressing and could possibly discourage future participation. I think that once people start visiting the forum regularly they will soon see who the "VW gods" are and will respect what those people have to say. I can't help but feel that rep points are commonly just becoming popularity points, which IMO is stupid.
That's my 2 cents

unless you post b/s topics and replys to get your number higher then people look at your post number and figure they know what your talking about, so the higher the number the more respect you have. srry but thats how it works.

Rank upgrades occur quite frequently actually, and at the following post levels:

1, 25, 50,75,100,200,300,450,550,1000, & 1500.

Sit tight, you are close to a rank upgrade.

I don't think you guys know what I am talking about. I was refering to the points that other users give you for good posts etc. But taking a closer look around I don't think that they are used here.
