I've decided I don't really like the feel of my shifting...
I installed a short shifter, which is nice, but shifting seems... difficult, or something. It seems I have to really shove the stick in the gear in order to shift. Is there anything I can do about this? Also, it squeaks a little when I shift. It's like it needs to be oiled or something, but I'm not sure how all that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dude, It's really difficult to diagnose without actually being there to experience this rough shifting, but... I'll tell you what. The shifter is so freaking complex in an A3... I couldnt beleive how complicated it was, therefore I am really not of much help. I dunno if oil would stop the squeaking.

if its just the regular 2.0 with the non cable shift transmission its shift linkage is almost identicle to the a2's
you prolly just need to greese the joints and bushings

All I know is that the VR6 linkage was about 10 A2 linkages glued together... Complex as hell.

ok, to grease the joints and bushings, do you mean just what's underneathe the actual shift knob and stuff? Just grease that stuff down there?

under the hood too
there are all sorts of little white for lack of a better word connectors that are clamped down on ball joints they need to be greesed too

For the linkage, I would use white lithium grease.
You can get it anywhere. (That sells auto parts, of course)

Can't you add some weights to it to make it easier to shift?
