In the 1.8L 8V, to me anyway, felt like there was a serious drop off in torque at around 5,500 rpm... Which is a considerable disadvantage in an off the line race.... A flat spot is where torque/hp either drops off, or does not increase with rpm.

what your talking about, i believe, is called the power band, an engine will run at the most power at a certain rpm, over is less power, under is less power.

the normal 8v cam looses power after 5,500 rpms
if you get a good techtonics tunning 268 cam it will pull strait to the redline
if your looking at the chip i think you are
i have that chip and it wont make it pull really past 5,500 rpm's
its why im getting a good cam and a catback next

That cam gives you top end, but bottom end will be lost.... It all depends on how you are racing.... If it's off the line, then stock cam is best for the 1.8L 8V. If you are doing ralley racing, or such, where you never really drop below 3 or 4,000 rpm, then the 268 would be perfect.... Mabey I am wrong... I dunno about these newfangled gasoline engines.

the 268 is a pretty mild cam so you dont loose much bottom end at all :)
they have some pretty damn large ones tho
like 280 and 300 and those are for what you mentioned :)
