I need to know how to locate a code or how to know if my engine is a 2.0 16v. the thing is that about 6 years ago i made a swap and installed a passat engine in my 1988 jetta gli 16v; and 1 year later the tranny gave up, i took my car to a mecanic and the car was junked for 3 years; recently i went to recuperate the car and i think that they switch my engine:rolleyes:

If it came from a passat, it is definitely a 2.0. The way you can tell the literage is on the backside of hte engine towards the bottom stamped into the block is a big "2.0" OR "1.8". It's on the transmission side of the engine. I don't know why they would want to switch it... Personally though, I think the 1.8 is a funner engine because it revs a lot higher than the 2.0. The 2.0 has like 15 more hp, but the revs of the 1.8 make it a blast to drive.
Anyways, good luck.

To make it work in your car? The 1.8 head will bolt onto the 2.0 block with no modifications... Remind me what engine your car has in it now... if it's the 1.8L 8V engine, there are a few things to do and some parts to buy but it'll work if you are ready for a project.
