Can you add fluild to a auto trans in a 2001 beetle, it's leaking. I was told that only a dealer can do it?? Why is it leaking?

Agreed. There are really only a few places it could be leaking. The drive flange seals and pan gasket come to mind. The pan gasket wouldn't be too hard, but the drive flange seals would not be a walk in the park. Come to think of it there is a seal between the torque converter and the transmission. too.

Can you get under there and look for shiny spots? Usually with trans fluid leaks, the trans fluid will dissolve any grease or oil build up on the transmission making it easy to find the leak. So look for clean metal or shiny spots (shiny spots being fresh fluid)
