Welcome to Dubnet! I'm a little unclear as to what your question is... can you elaborate? Most of those convertible Rabbits (or carbriolets) had the Karmann package IIRC. Or mabey that was only the Cabriolets and not the Rabbits.

The car probably looks something like this:

Those rabbits came with a variety of engines... 1.6L, 1.7L and 1.8L gas and diesel. They either came with a 3 speed automatic or a 4 or 5 speed manual trans.

Be'ins it's a 1984, it probalby has CIS mechanical fuel injection or perhaps a carb. IIRC means if I remember correctly ;)

The 2.0 engine is an ABA and everything is virutually the same as far as bolt up. You'll need to swap the engine mounts over from your old engine to the 2.0. The 2.0 will bolt right up to the rabbit trans. You will need to swap the pressure plate, flywheel and any other clutch related component from your old rabbit engine to the 2.0, but it should bolt right up.

The 2.0 aba is a taller engine... you might have hood clearence issues which might require you to get an aftermarket intake manifold (short runner). If your engine in your rabbit is carb'ed you will probably need to get a standalone fuel management system (like megasquirt). With patience you could swap the engine management from a newer volkswagen to run the EFI on the 2.0. (it's not that hard... just some splicing and LOTS of reading). If your rabbit is CIS, it will not be suitable to run the 2.0.... you'd be better off going with EFI.

This has been done many times and I consider myself an expert on this. ;) let me know if I can help in any way. I am located in Utah.

No! It's totally worth it! Lots of people do this swap. "ABA" means that is the engine code. The 2.0L 8V crossflow engine found in the Jetta you are working on. Most VW people refer to this engine as the ABA.

No matter what the fuel system in the rabbit, you will probably have to swap the engine management in from another car. Since you have the whole totaled car, this is a perfect oppertunity to get the entire engine harness and ECU and swap it into the rabbit.

This sounds like a big task, but it really is not! The hardest part of this will be finding a way to route the wires and a secure place to mount the ECU!

If you have done other swaps before, you will find that it doesn't get much simpler than this rabbit you have. The Rabbit is soo simple in every way. Giving the rabbit a new heart will be very beneficial. 115hp in a rabbit will be very quick. The ABA is also very torquey. It has short piston skirts, a long connecting rod and a longer stroke. LOTS of bottom end torque and a nice crossflow head for decent top end. This engine makes like 122lbs of torque if I remember correctly.
