I went to open my rear passenger door on the Jetta today and it was locked, so I reached in from the drivers door lifted the lock plunger and tried again and the handle pulls without any friction and door doesn't open. It feels the same from the inside and doesn't open the door either.
Any ideas?
Also, how do I get the door panel off with the door closed??!!
Oh yeah, kicking the door doesn't help!

I've had that problem before.
I think I used WD40 and sprayed EVERYTHING I could reach with the little plastic hose that comes with them.
I mean I sprayed everything.
I sprayed through the door jam to attempt to hit the lock it's self, sprayed through the hole where the lever is on the handle (the part you pull) sprayed down through the thing you pull up to unlock the door.
Then I just kept trying and it finally unlocked and opened.
At that point I saturated everything with White Lithium Grease, I proceeded to do all 4 doors at that point..
Hope that helps.
BTW, I think I used almost the entire can of WD40, it was running out the bottom of the door when I was done.

Great! Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try and let you know how it all works out. WD-40 is great stuff and too much of it is not a bad thing!

i kind of have that problem with my door too, but all i have to do is hold the handle open and wiggle the door and it'll open.
I don't know what it's called, but the piece that engages the latch to open the door is a little off, so it doesn't completely work right away.
good luck tho.

The same thing happens to me all the time on my rear door on my mark II. Since I kind of hate the car, I usually just kick the door has hard as I can and that usually frees up any stuck components!:twisted::twisted:
I know that's not an option for you though... haha. Anyways, once you get it open you really should do as Zuk suggested and grease everything. Neglecting the door mechanisms will only come back and bite you in the ass. The MkII VW engineers skipped the class that explained how to make high quality handles and locks.

Yeah, I've been busy and haven't had the chance to screw with this door yet, but I am going to take it apart as per the link that Kirochan sent me and then lube the hell out of everything inside. Fortunately its the rear door, but I guess after I do all of this I should do the same to the other 3 doors.
