Ranks up to other 4 door sedans? I'm assuming you have the 180hp 1.8T which is what (i think) came on all Jettas. Your car, assuming it's a 5 speed manual does 0-60 in 6.9seconds.

Here are a few cars and their 0-60 times

You are faster than:

2002 Honda Civic Si 7.6
2002 Pontiact Grand AM GT 7.7
2004 Acura TSX 7.5
1999 BMW 328i 6.9
2003 Cadillac CTS 7.0
2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 7.9
2005 Ford Crown Victoria LX 8.1
2004 Ford Focus SVT 7.4
1995 Geo Metro LSi 12.7 18.8
2004 Honda Accord EX Sedan V-6 7.0
2002 Hyundai Tiburon GT V-6 7.1
2004 Mazda 3 8.0

Is faster than you:

2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 5.8
2004 Nissan 350Z 5.3
2007 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V 6.4
2007 Subaru WRX 2.5L Turbo 5.3
2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX 4.5
2006 Honda S2000 5.5
2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Superchrg 6.1
2004 Chrysler Crossfire (6 speed) 6.4
2004 Dodge SRT-4 5.3
2005 Dodge Charger R/T 5.6
005 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 5.1

Really though, that is relative... Cause there are only three cars on this list that have forced induction. A simple chip would make you just as fast or faster than everythign on this list. There is a very large aftermarket for these cars... Definitely start with a chip. The neat thing about these cars is the boost is controlled by the ECU... the chip will take care of the fueling and boost.

You have the AWP engine, which I have verified to be the 1.8T 180hp. I would recommend that you get an APR chip. ARP has a 91 octane program for you car that delivers 209hp/242lb-ft. You could get their 93 octane program which is 215hp/247lb-ft.

Read all about this chip and buy it here:

http://www.goapr.com/VW/products/ecu_upgrade_jetta18t.html

The next things I would recommend would be a turbo back exhaust.. at minimum 2.5" perhaps a 3". Then a front mount intercooler. There are a bunch of little things you can do for minimal amounts of power but those are the most important. Significant increases past this will require a turbo upgrade. There are a lot of people getting 300hp from the 1.8T with reliable results. 300hp would put you up there with the EVO, Corvette, 911, NSX, Cobra, etc.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions... :) Enjoy your stay at Dubnet.

Oh man thank for your help mangzzz

Which three cars would still be faster then me if i were to drop that chip in.

I think the mustang gt would be one of them am i right...

I used to own a mustang gt and then decided i wanted something that handled and was a little funnier to drive around...

I went back to drive my old GT and it was just *** awful... I hated everything about the speed and handling.. >.<

The EVO is the fastest 0-60 car on the list... 4.5 sec... I'd be hard to beat that without more serious tuning. STI, SRT-4, and Mustang GT would be a realistic match. GT's are quick, but you'd be right there with them at 250hp. I had a tuned 95 VR6 GTI and a 2007 Mustang GT only had a few car lengths on me. The stang is fast, but they weigh a lot.

after only driving my Jetta for a week.. the difference between the cars was just so drastic.... The Stang handles like crap and the jetta is pretty much smooth about everything it does.

the only reason i hade to drive the mustang today was becasue the Jetta is in the shop getting a new timing belt and water pump installed..

The owner of the shop said that i needed to get the water pump (not really sure) and timing belt replaced at the same time is that right or is he killing me out of money??? haha

The mustang has a solid rear axle man and leaf springs (?)... Ford calls it a "live axle" which is BS. Solid rear axle is a technology from the early 1900's . The 2004 (?) Cobra had an independent rear which was FREAKING amazing. Ford saw how well it was doing and was like... Hell no, Americans can't be known for this good technology... let's throw our car back into 1930's to save $729 on production costs per car.:evil::evil::evil: Mustangs are good for performance in a straight line, but that is about it.

The water pump is spun by the timing belt and they seem to have fragile gaskets. It's was definitely a good recommendation to get the water pump done at the same time.... The water pump should only have been like $30 and that's just a 5 minute job when the timing belt is removed.

Awesome okay so my car should be all ready to be driven again by tomorrow if thats the case. There was a stupid little problem with the check engine light but it was for a thormometor or something.

In all i still have to get the air conditioning fixed it works... just barley though.. :(

So im hoping its not going to cost a billion dollars to fix.

Dude... 1.8T engines have 20 valves... 5 per cylinder. The timing belt is under huge amounts of stress. I have heard of more timing belts breaking on 1.8Ts than on any other engine. You go past the maintenance schedule with the t belt and you are seriously gambling with the devil. It's good that you are doing now. Timing belt snappage will DESTROY the engine... as in 12-20 bent valves and 4 cracked pistons. IE: engine replacement.

Now that I have put an appropriate amount of fear in your heart, don't sweat it. It's getting replaced right now. Just make sure you do it on or before the recommended intervals and you'll be fine.

Btw... If you think you car handles good now, wait till you get some billsteins, konis and a lower profile tire on there... These handle like go carts on rails.

"billsteins, konis and a lower profile tire on there... These handle like go carts on rails."

What does all that mean lol

Billsteins and konis.. im not really sure what those are heh

Bilstein struts, koni springs and a lower profile tire... like a 50 or 60 sidewall. ;)

which makes handling better or crappy... What kinda tires do i have or what could you tell from the picture... cuz everything seems to ride pretty smooth and they are semish low profile i would guess

The right strut/spring setup will dramatically improve your handling... What size are the tires on your jetta now? There should be a number that looks something like 205/60/15 on the side wall.

So yea... I was out driving today and my front wheels... they kinda bump a little when coming to a stop... like its a little bump but its consistant everytime i do stop. Do you possibly think it would be time for the brakes to be re-surfaced?

Mr_Diesel

Does it happen immediately when you press the brake pedal? I had some cheap autozone pads that didn't "fit" into the caliper very well and when I press the pedal I heard a bump/thump/clank. This was the sound of the pad hitting the carrier/caliper. You only need to resurface if there is a large lip on the outer edge of the rotor or if they are warped. You can tell if they are warped by making a high speed stop very quickly... like 50mph to 0mph in just a few seconds... you can feel it in the pedal and hear it resonate throughout the car.

hey no offense diesel but this was something I was asking myself when I first bough my wolfsburg and it actually can either be an AWD or an AWW engine code, you can read about it here, it tells you how to find out http://www.18turbo.com/18t-faq.html and my quest goes along with his with the suspension, do you have any good links to parts such as suspension and pulleys and such? oh yah, and how can I tell if my timing belt or waterpump are fugged?
