strange acting speedo/tach

Hey there guys, my 99 wolfsburg (first half of model year, so it's still A3) has an instrument cluster that is acting up. If my speedo and tach do not work, but the odometer does what does that mean? Is it some sensor in the engine or a faulty wire connection or is it that the cluster has gone bad and i need to replace it? Thanks for the help

Probably a lose wire MK3's are natorious for broken/lose wires.
